Can m2000 helmet be used for autox?

Can I use m2000 or does it have to be sa2000?

It is my first event so want to get a feel for it before I buy a helmet.

I would be attending bmwcca ny chapter event

Every club has their own rules. Some allow M2000, others don't. You will find the answer on their website.

Their drivers school manual says "It is recommended, but not required, that Participants purchase SA type helmets, although M type helmets are acceptable."

Stick with SA to be safe, plus it'll work for other events as well.

As of right now m2000 is still usable, but if you decide to continue autocrossing, you will need to upgrade. SCCA, NASA and most groups require helmets that fall within the requirements of the last 10 years, and m2000 is on the fringe. The last time I heard anything, no new helmets had been made to the 2010 requirements yet, so most groups are still accepting the m and SA 2000 helmets for autocross for this season.

The first SA2010 helmets were released in October. When the 2010 version of a helmet you like is released, you can probably find the discontinued 2005 version for half-price. Anyway, that's what I did.
