Falken 452s first impressions and Pressure on 18s

The inevitable thoughts and questions after another defection to non-RFTs

Took car for gentle drive and was pleased with the steering feel (was worried about sidewall roll ). Perhaps slightly lighter, but overall couldn't detect some loss of sharpness on turn in (but then wasn't pushing it!). Maybe this is also becuase I am running right size for my rims, so less sidewall to flex and high inflation pressure.

Car no longer crashes over bumps and potholes BUT it is still bloody firm. Not as much improvement I was expecting, but more progressive and pleasant.

Tyre noise seems quieter as well?

I have matched the orignal RFT pressure of 2.7 front and 2.9. which was for W speed rated tyres (bottom left on pic below). The 452s are Y so Looking at my door card do I need to drop pressure (top right). Note sure why speed rating needs different pressures

I put the exact same falkens on my old 330i before i sold it 2009.

They were great, my OE tyres were Y rated as were the falkens, so i used the lower pressures to start with, 2.2 / 2.4 as i recall.

Yours look fine, not stretched at all, why would they as they're the perfect size for the rims?

Higher speeds should cope with higher loading forces - so I assume there is less of a need to load the tyre up with air pressure. There are kinds of variations on there though (profiles and 'XL' extra load capability) so all of that has an impact on what they are recommending.

So should I drop to 2.3 / 2.5 give that try?

I agree mate, but some people thought they look stretched, when I asked the question hence saying oversize is better http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529671

Yes, get them down to the door card spec and go from there.

Way too high currently.

Cheers mate, you mean for the Y rated tyres (top right).
I know i sound daft, but that is different to what I used to run 2.7/2.9

Sell them on ebay (get £50+ for a 4mm RFT!). It was the puncture that prompted me, to go for it.

The Vreds have gone up a lot in price, so no longer a bargain....

I have recently upped my 19" TP to +0.1 BAR above RFT reccomended.
Much improved, in fact 0.2BAR offered much greater road feedback, but its harsh

Maybe try upping the front a few psi and take the nice new turn - in feeling.
But leave the rears alone?

Ok, set them to 2.35 / 2.55 (.05 for good measure as it was quite cold this morning)

Felt ok for gentle driving, need to scrub them in this week so can start pushing!
