Sprint Kantana Pairing & Dropping

I've had this issue since I got my new phone in January 2007, where my phone will pair and then drop within 20 seconds so, re-pair and drop. I understand that it is not compatiable with my March 2006 build 330i software. Others 330i & 335s with later production dates the phone works.

Ok, I called a Service Advisor at BMW of Fairfax, VA, and explained to him my problem with the pariing then dropping. He stated that his Shop Foreman was the one to help me with this problem as he does this type of help alot.

So I went in to see him. Hank (Shop Foreman) asked if my phone Sprint Kantana was "on the list" and I said not but others have it working. Also, I told him that the Official BMW List of Approved Phones was over year old and BMW is very slow in helping the customer with issues.

Anyway, he did as I had done and got the same results on several trys. He then went and got an "approved phone" and it worked as it should. The only problem is that this LG phone is "over a year old" and not with my provider. He said I need a new phone and I corrected him and said, NO, I need a new "old" phone as any new phone (like my Kantana) will not work with the software that is loaded in my March built 2006 330i. He said yes that is what you are left with.

That's it. No offer to upgrade my software or anything.

BMW has never been known for it's great customer care nor does BMW of Fairfax. I knew that, I thought I'd try since it is 6 blocks from work.

I get drop calls, but it has nothing to do with BMW. It has more to do with
ATT being absorbed by Cingular.

I think he's referring to the Bluetooth not pairing and retaining the signal between his phone and the car...

I work for Sprint...I gotta say our equipment really sucks as of late...it may have more to do with the Katana being a really cheaply made phone versus the Bluetooth unit in your car...though the old v. new software conflicts happen a lot because folks turn-over phone models much faster than Bluetooth units and the BT software in the Katana is probably updated beyond the capacity of your car...

I wish I could help, even if you got an even newer phone, you'd be up to the same issue...get a bluetooth headset to tide you over until you get a 335!

Wait, what? So new phones don't connect via BT to our 330i? That can't be right.

FWIW, I use a VZW Blackberry phone and it has worked flawlessly from day one. Are you saying that if I get a new phone down the road, it won't?

I am saying that new(er) phones are carrying a newer version of Bluetooth. It used to be that many phones had to be "married" to the car's Bluetooth adapter. That is most likely the case in the 330i version of bluetooth software. NOW -- many newer phones have an active marrying process so that many be why your Katana is dropping and re-connecting, and dropping again...the Bluetooth versions are not sync-ing correctly...

I had a Sprint Samsung A9000, and ended up dropping Sprint and getting Cingular with a Motorola V3; it ended up cheaper in the long run, as I'll make up the $150 of cancelling the contract by the end of the year.

I went from having the problems you had Dean, to it working flawlessly. Since that was a big deal for me (I won't use the phone in the car otherwise), it was worth the trade.

When you say "active marrying process", you're still talking about phones, right?

My Katana has worked very well with my 2006 325. I have the latest uploaded firmware (see Update Phone feature in the Katana). I'm not sure what PROGMAN I have (probably pre v21). JSpria alluded to updating PROGMAN may destoy BT compatibility. I guess it could enable compatibility, too.

PROGMAN 25.x + Katana = working pair? Anyone?
