have you installed the rubber bushes underneath the engine cover between the bolts?

take out your engine cover and slide it in looking through the gap and it will sit between rubbers.
i had the same problem and at low revs it vibrates through the dash/air vents.

The covers are a pita to put back on 320D the cover slides into two locating lugs under the bulkhead. Otherwise it will vibrate and rattle against the strut brace and you will hear it as if its in the dash

Think I've got this happening in my 330D as well, but looks like it's a right PITA to get off, anyone got any link's / guides on how to strip it off?

Thanks

This.
I've had exactly the same.
It HAS to go into the slots or it will rattle like skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin.....
