RTA - Incompetent Wankers!

Have to have a little rant

I have always had custom number plates, which cost $400 extra per year.

Recently I ordered some new ones due to my business name changing, the cost to order them was $200 which I paid. There is an annual fee of $400 per year which is added to your rego.

Received a letter earlier this month saying they were ready. At the same time I got a renewal notice for my rego which I paid on line, 3 weeks early, including the Premium plate fee of $400.

Went to the RTA today to collect the new plates expecting to pay a $40 fee..... well not so!

They wanted to charge me the $400 again saying the fee was per plate, not vehicle, so because I'd paid my rego in advance I would be forfeiting the annual fee that I'd inadvertently paid in advance, as the policy was no refunds on the annual fee for custom plates.

So I asked for a refund of my rego payment (since it still isn't due) which they refused.

I indicated I'd cancel the charge with my bank (paid by c/card) and they said if I did that I'd be up for a large fine by the office of state revenue.

I asked if I could dispute the fee and I'd collect the plates later, the moron's responded "sure the resolution process takes 6 weeks, so we will need to charge you the storage fee as in 10 days these new plates will be destroyed and you'd then have to pay another $200 to have the plates remade".

Here is the cracker, the storage fee is $400 PA with no pro-rata. And if you take them out of storage it cannot be applied against the annual fee.

F*cking bonehead wanker dick head public service idiot that had dribble all over his face and a shirt that looked like it had never seen the inside of a washing machine!!

Manager was just as useless so I paid the $400 and lodged a request for refund while I was there. They refused to give me a copy of the request as it's "internal paperwork" .... probably public service speak for 'we'll round file it and laugh as the customer leaves'...

When I got back into the car I called the RTA, spoke to a lovely lady called Mary who agreed it was ridiculous & is having the plates marketing manager call me in the morning to discuss a refund.

End of rant.

They work at the RTA. Doesn't that say enough about them? I've never had a pleasant experience at RTA.

It was accurate though, dribble everywhere and shirt that was stained and dirty. I guess it should be expected as it was in Marrickville (ducking head now)

Classic RTA story,

They made a mistake on my stamp duty cost only charging me $135 instead of $1350.
I was so OMFG happy but then received a letter to pay the outstanding in 14days.

I knew this day would come damn it.

that's a fk'd up story, to be honest I love Sydney, but paying an annual fee to hold plates is ridiculous along with there being no pro-rata rate and the $400 holding fee not being able to go towards your rego if you did want to use the plates...Sounds a bit silly to be honest. How do they justify the annual $400 fee for you to have custom plates? What is that $400 going towards exactly?!?! Crazy!! I like the system in Victoria much better!!

I already pay them xxx dollars in speeding fine each year, no way gonna top up their coffers with plate fees at all not the $ but the principal. They are there to facilitate us not to make $ off of us.

Gurr seams the RTA has snookered me.

The $400 fee is per plate, so if I'd not renewed my rego prior to picking up the new ones I'd have only been charged $53.

They are investigating if they can refund my rego payment (since it's still not due) which would mean they would send me a new renewal notice with the normal fees less the prepaid annual fee.

Stupid public servants with stupid rules.

That'd be the way to go mate. Perhaps if they don't give you any love, cancel your payment and old plates and repay the rego fee all before the due date. The OSR couldn't do a thing
