price difference between 12k miles and 15k miles

I used the search and nothing came up as far as current prices. For a lease for this month does anybody know the price difference between 12k miles and 15k miles? Is it simple math? Add up the miles multiply by the price of miles and divide by the term of the lease or is it about residual?

any help would be great.

thanks

Red face

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's simple math. Lets say it's 20 cents per mile over 12000 miles/year. That's $1800.00 on a 3 year lease or $50.00/month. It may also affect the residual.

Thats what I was thinking but still not sure. For instance I tried that logic when adding some options to my car while ordering . I thought it was simple math, but the SA told me, because of the residual it doesn't work there way and I could get some more options for on a few more dollars a month.

The miles are a big part of the residual value, that and the term length. I just leased a 335xi sedan and the residual for 15k is 67% for 27 months. Dropping to 12k increases that to 69%, and 10k is 70%. When I plugged those numbers into an online calculator, 10k to 12k was about $20 more and 12k to 15k is another $30.

These sites were helpful in my purchase:

guyincogntioo is right. The difference in mileage is reflected in the residual. BMWFS lists residual for a 15,000/year lease, say 54%. If you go for a 12k lease then add two percent to the residual so it's 56%. Add another 1% for a 10k lease. In a lease you're paying the depreciation computed as the difference between residual (a percent of MSRP) and what you paid for the car plus interest on that amount (interest is called money factor in a lease). The higher the residual and lower your purchase price the smaller the depreciation and lower your monthly payments.

An advantage with BMWFS is that you can purchase additional miles during the lease up to five months before the lease ends. If you chose a 12k/year lease and see you're going to go over that then you can buy extra miles.

If you go to the "Ask a Dealer" part of the Bimmerfest website Lease Compare lists the current lease terms. At the bottom of his list he includes the formula used to compute your lease payments. Easy to do, just takes a little practice. If you're seriously considering a lease you really need to understand the process so do some study.
