BMW new 2.0L turbodiesel engine that puts out 204hp and 400Nm

BMW has designed a new 2.0L turbodiesel engine that puts out an impressive 204hp and 400Nm of torque. Additional benefits over the 177hp outgoing motor is a wider power band, improved fuel economy and a lighter aluminum engine block. BMW made use of a variable twin turbo system, utilizing a small low inertia turbo that spools up almost instantly off idle combined with a larger unit at high rpm loads.

The end result is a smooth torque curve with 200Nm of twist coming from just 1200rpm and the 400Nm peak not far off at only 2000rpm. This should provide plenty of urge around town without the engine even having to break a sweat. BMW is yet to release fuel consumption figures, but it claims the new engine is more economic than the previous 2.0L diesel, which used just 4.9L/100km.

The engine makes do with latest diesel technology including high pressure Piezo injection with fuel squirted in rounds of three and at 2000bar pressure. Thanks to the particulate filters, the new unit releases just 129g of carbon-dioxide emissions per 100km. The motor has also been designed to sit further back in the engine bay, which not only improves handling and balance, but also makes the vehicle safer for pedestrians in the event of a collision.

You can get that kind of performance by a remap on the original 320D

Must be a incorrect translation, since BMW released info on the 177Kw one at the same time as this one

This is extremely interesting. I have been planing to get a 330d at some time within the next year or so but this engine is what I have been hoping for.

Can Fleet say anything about this?

If this is true my next car will be an e91 M-sport with this engine. It should be should be almost as fast as the 330d and handle a little better due to lower weight.

I also have been planning to get an E92 320d or 325d in a few months but for this engine I will wait a little more.

My dealer did not know anything about this engine.

I hope Fleet or other member bring more details about the models will get them and when will be available.

Thank you Fleet. I will not get anything before the dust settles on this one. This engine seems awsome based on the specs alone - both the performance and the emission are very nice.

FYI, 400Nm = 300 ft/lbs (+/-).

This is going in the new 123d.

Tuning should see 250-270bhp and over 500nm of torque, while keeping 40+ Mpg. Nice!

I do not want the 1-series . It is really small and the interior is not at the level of the series in my opinion. I was just at the dealer the other day to site in the 1-series and that is the impression I got. The plastics seems VERY hard and I think the car lacks the solid feel of the 3-series. I don't mean to the 1 but that was my impression

No doubt the 1 series is a lot of fun to drive but so is the 3 m-sport.

I'm waiting for the 2011 340d. Once remapped, it should be good for 600hp & 1000Nm
