Cool Feature (E90)

After 2 years of owning E90's I just found another feature. When you have the moonroof and the sunshade closed, hit the tilt function on the moonroof switch. The sunshade will slide back, just slighlty and the moonroof will tilt. Very cool!

Both the roof and the sunshade will slide back if you open your sunroof while the sunshade is closed.

That's okay though...just recently I discovered that my 3 can circulate the heated air from the engine when you turn off the car to keep it warm enough for you to get out, go shopping, and come back to a nice warm interior.

An added feature is, if the sunshade is only partially open and you then open the sunroof all the way, the sunshade opens all the way as well. Amazing!

Not very beneficial in the summer months, though. Unless you're in the upper elevations.

Always read front to back. Try holding your unlock button down while getting close to the car. Magically all the windows open and the sunroof opens too!!!

You're JUST finding this out?

Based on that, you probably have dozens of neat surprises in store.

The shade opens about 3" because having the sunroof in the vent position creates a negative pressure within the vehicle - caused by the aspiration of the interior air to the outside. This will potentially break the shade and cause other problems if the air cannot flow. Hence the auto-open function.

When you open the roof by sliding it back, air is forced into the vehicle which would cause even greater damage to the shade... hence the opening.

Personally, I prefer the way VW and MB make their shades, with vented slots in the shade so you can leave it closed when you have the roof in the vented (tilt up) position. Many times I end up closing it because the sun is coming through that 3" area and blinding me.

While I do enjoy this feature, there have been several time I forgot the roof was tilted up and it rained in. By seeing the gap in the BMW I see right away I need to close it before getting out of the car.

Nope, never read the manual.

I've learned so much from this forum, no need.

Maybe next year, when I catch up with all my work.
