Bitburg

Does Bitburg have an AAFES gas station on it or is the closest one on Spang? I'll be up there for a softball game tonight and will probably want to refuel before heading back home. Thanks.

Bitburg does have a gas station on base. 3rd exit at the roundabout as soon as you get through the gate, follow it down maybe a mile. I think it closes around 2000 or so though. Spang's is open 24.

It is better to buy your gas at Esso anyway. Haven't you noticed that at AAFES the pumps say: "SuperPlus 98 may contain up to 5% ethanol" while at Esso SuperPlus comtains NO ethanol. NONE.

I have heard this is bc the fuel we get onbase is set aside by Esso for US forces... it comes to Germany differently than the gas that is for normal German Esso station. In short... I think we get the left over scraps of fuels (in the delivery system) - while the Germans get the real deal 98 SuperPlus.

Also... at Esso they have better filters on their pumps - this is the mann reasons why I always tank at Esso.

Yeah, I like to do ESSO myself for the most part but I've also been told we get the same gas. I would not be surprised, which you prob are, if your right about AAFES gettin the scrapes. As old as these stations on base are I'm sure their filters are less than top of the line. Thanks all.

FDM, we don't get the same gas as on base. On base you either have the option of E5 (Super/Superplus 95/98 octane) or E10 95 Octane. Also if you notice, alot of the Esso stations around military installations sell you the same crap. Some stations that are decently away from the base have a good probability of having a Sp pump with E-less Superplus.

I have to drive about 10-15 minutes to Weiden from Vilseck so I can get "clean" SuperPlus without any ethanol in it. If you plan to be in an area, check on all the stations in the area and see if you can find out what they have/sell. Before I put any "E" gas in my car, I will pay in Euros to get something without "E" in it.
