UK production delays
Just had the heads up that cars are being delayed due to lack on components for the radios!
Currently mine is delayed from 1st June to 20th June..... |

I was speaking to a dealer earlier in the week - he seemed to think he could have one in eight weeks (he would say that though wouldn't he !)
What does he mean when he says he had a couple of 'production slots' available ?

They book the slots periodically with dummy builds, then either change to a sold car or cancel them. Standard practice really.
Mine has been given eight weeks, although almost every new bike/car I've had has experienced some random "it'll be another 2-4 weeks" delay at some point.. Fingers crossed!

I'd take any comment from a dealer saying they have a 'production slot' available as a sales tactic rather than gospel.
I was told the same by the sales guy when I ordered mine, so didn't rush with the spec and paperwork as he said he'd held me a slot held. When I subsequently got an ETA of around four months (which ended up being five...) I complained to the dealer's sales director, who said they dont get allocated build slots, all orders just have to go into the queue with everything else. There might be the odd occasion where they have a stock car on order where they can change the spec, but I think 95% of the time they just want to get your order...

Genuinely doesn't work like that, what you can never cater for though is a sales guy who gives your slot away to someone else for whatever reason. So basically no, they do exist, but yes you can never trust a salesman.

Worked OK for me - they said they had a slot just going into build which they changed for my spec. Was sitting in the car (with 6 miles on the clock) 5 weeks after signing the order.

Captain Chaos is right, and Xenon is evidence of that....it could have simply been that you took too long and they sold the slot to someone else who was ready to put down a deposit etc...
Anyways it would have been nice I think if Sytner would have been able to see if they had a demo vehicle order going in which they could have changed over for me, but alas they simply added me to the growing queue.... |

Ive just finalised the order for my replacement F11 yesterday, was told that Sophisto Grey Xirallic is unavailable due to Japan, there is now an alternative in the UK configurator of Sophisto Grey II and that some radio components had been causing delays but this had been overcome and didnt affect my Pro Media order.
Just to add to previous comments about build slots, mine will go into production next month and is an amendment of a slot in the system previously placed by the dealer. This also happened with my current F11 order and other makes I have purchased. If you doubt what they say most dealers will be happy to show you your order on the system and you can view the dates for yourself, I always do this anyway as a cross check for spec to what is on the order form as mistakes can (and do) happen. So you already have an F11 and you're buying another already? Blimey, you must clock up some miles.

Thanks for the input ukstevens.
My car was in production and spec frozen on April 26th...then it just say there not moving forward. I was then able to amend the spec again on May 10th. I was told once again that it was in production on 18th May.....the dealer has not bothered to call me since then so I can only assume nothing has yet moved forward. What baffles me to some extent is that people who ordered at the same time as me, and later have received or started receiving their vehicles already.... |

I'd be inclined to pop in to the dealer and take a look at the dates for yourself, someone may correct me but I think it's unusual for it to go into production and then become amendable again ..... Sounds like the dealer may have been giving out some bs
Hope it's not too long away !

I did call them last week and suggest that it was bs, that is when they said it had again gone into production (18th May).
I would assume if that were the case and it was moving through the production stages that by today I would have had a call from the dealer with an update..... According to BMW Germany HQ they are producing approx 1600 5 series cars a day! |

I ordered mine at the beginning of May and dealer quoted expected delivery at end of June. He says that BMW are showing it coming through mid July but that it might be brought forward are pessimistic rather than optimistic on their dates. I am taking that with a pinch of salt.

There should be no delays unless your spec has a parts delay (which you should be told about) ..... I ordered last week .... I checked today and the order is now locked and non changeable, so heading for production and should pop up this side of the channel in week 27 (w/c 4th July).

Called the dealer this morning and he informed me that my car had arrived at the dealership yesterday.
That is the exact delivery date I was given when I first placed the order. The car will be ready to pickup on Monday 6th June. Just over 9 weeks after placing the order. The car went into production on the 19th May, so that seems a very good turnaround.... |

I ordered a 520d M Sport on 21st April with an ETA of 30 July, however the dealer said he is optimistic it will arrive the last week of June. Spoke to him 4 weeks after the order and the car had not gone into production, so I'm not as optimistic as he is. I also asked him about the change to Sophisto Grey II and he claims it is simply a change of name given it's no longer sourced from Japan, but the colour is the same. I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing.
