F30 328i 4cyl Turbo (N20) ?

The 328 should be a 4cyl Turbo right?

Do we have a guess on pricing yet?

The new a4 will have a 4-cyl turbo.

The new 328 will have a 620ps turbocharged 3.5 V10 derived from McLaren F1. It will cost less than the a4

Nice attempt at sarcasm

OP, no guesses yet on pricing. The entry-level 3 will have a 2.0 litre turbo 4 good for 245 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.

I hope that BMW will align itself with Mercedes (2012),

A base 4-turbo
C300 with direct injection
C350 with direct injection

The pojtn is that the 328i deserves better than a 4-cyl. turbo. that doesn't better fuel economy than a NA 6-cyl

Getting rid of a turbo 6 at the top of the 3 series lineup would be a critical mistake for BMW and would allow Audi to run wild. I would also expect the next Lexus IS to have a turbo 6.

No. The description sounds more like an Audi than BMW.

Times are changing, get used to it. The new base engine will have more power and get better fuel economy than the one I currently have - I don't really care how they do it.

Also FYI from the Audi world, there is a facelift planned for the 2012 A4, probably will include LED front head lighting as an option and upped power from the 2.0T. Supposedly a drastic facelift much like the B6 to B7

I will probably stick with Audi but this new F30 is making that difficult.

And what's with no smaller engine diesel? I know you can get the 335D but thats a beast, why not a 2.0 Diesel from any of the big 3 in the US??

DAMN! Almost 1:1 torque to HP for the entry 3er?! Nice!

Audi's are rebadged VWs....Although I admit that I fancy the new A6 with LED headlights

Personally I find it odd that the US market hasn't had a small diesel on offer yet. BMW make fantastic diesel 4 pots which the European market has been enjoying for many years so why not share the technology?

it would be tight if the 328 flipped the game on the 335 2.0 i4 turbo vs a 3.0 N/A 300hp I6....then our JB5 328's will put those 335's to sleep

Not really, there are certain platforms that are shared but this is not necessarily the case.

This is like saying a Rolls Royce is a 3 series.

VWAG like most\all large manufacturers share numerous platforms within their lines.

I thought you were from Germany and would have some inclination of this.

Yeah.... C250. This name has been alive in Canada with a 2.5L V6 since at least 2008. The 2012 C250 should be equipped with this ridiculous 1.8L 204HP.

My guess would be for the cars to launch in US as a 328 / 335 combination

328: 4cyl N20
335: 6cyl N55

The rumored 3-Cylinder turbo is going to be the interesting factor, is the '318i' name going to make a return in the US?

And hopefully some kind of 335'is' edition is developed going into the future as well, its pricey but I liked the concept. I'm assuming they would do the same as they did for the E90 and produce such a car after the M3 in order to pump up the 3-series line a little.

The current A6 platform (my 2010 GTI) has little in common with the Audi A3 or A4 sold here in the US. Yes, many of the parts are common but that's because they're all sourced from the mothership at VAG. On a bright note, it certainly proves a 2.0T motor with a little help from the boys at APR (stage I) can kick some serious booty along with netting me 32 mpg on the interstate. Assuming I can keep my foot out of it which is easier said than done ;-) I'm sure BMW can achieve similar or better results with the upcoming 328i and N20 motor. Dual scroll turbo, latest Bosch electronics, modern design and state of the art lightweight materials - looking forward to seeing what they produce.

Both will be great cars, the only problem now is which one choose

Here's some info from a German forum,

http://www.f30-forum.de/board1-f30-f...ionen-zum-f3x/

So most models seem to get a 4cyl turbo engine I think this new engine is going to be nice, think I'd wait a year though before getting one.

About Mercedes, received the brochure for the new C-Class Coupé in the mail yesterday, C180 and C250 are 1.8l 4cyl turbo engines, C350 is a 3.5l V6 and if you want to go V8, the C63 AMG is the way to go. Surprising to me is that Mercedes doesn't seem to be keen on downsizing their AMG model yet?

It would be a financial mistake to downsize the C AMGs motor since it is being used in cars that weigh almost 1000lbs more than the CAMG
