Now I can answer everyone's burning question......
Which is: Does DHP make a difference?
My own very subjective and preliminary (only have my v2.0 for couple of hours) opinion is that IT DOES MATTER. And here is what my limited experience tells me: 1) In comfort mode, on less than perfect roads, the F10 with DHP is way more forgiving when gunning thru road imperfections. The dampening is near perfect for comfort, and will be especially evident when you go thru speed bumps. However, on higher speeds (anything above 50km/h), DHP in comfort mode, does exhibit a bit more "Boat-Like" feels. Switching to normal, reduced the boat-like feels at speeds (not eliminate). 2) In terms of cornering, I bet if you are riding in the back seat, you will feel what it's meant to do: makes you feel comfortable. But if you are driving, DHP in comfort mode reminds me of driving my Vellfire..... (which is not very good) 3) In sport mode, I can feel the differences between an F10 with DHP and one without. In sport mode with DHP, the car does physically feel stiffer besides steering. Cornering is noticeably more level with the DHP then without. Overall, I am happier with my v2.0 F10 than my V1.0 without the DHP. Pictures will follow on Thursday, after I have my car washed. And yes! 90% of the toys are installed on my car today. Kudos to the team at WK, putting everything together for me in less than 2hrs. And I had them change all light bulbs to match the Xenon white as well

Mlai bro, thank you for your detail review on DHP. The electronic damper and leveling are definitely good to have. Your car is really a beast.
I don't have DHP, I can only use sport mode when I drive alone. The throttle response make my wife and folks sick. Hehe. But the other day when I used sport mode. After driving like 10 mins, the computer said transmission malfunction and told me I can still drive but moderately. That scared me. The gear change felt funny, like it doesn't want to swift gear. When I stop at a signal, I turn off the engine and re-start. Then everything went normal. Not sure if I should take my car to the dealer now or wait to see if this happens again. BTW, WK has done great job again as you said. That adds points and I am almost pulling my trigger on the M aero at there.

For the rear lights, didn't touch the reverse lights as they mentioned that the Wattage is different and will throw an error......

Follow up. Went to see the 1st 3D p*rn movies tonight and dropped off my friends. Then took a spirited run from Tai Hang Road -> Magazine Gap road -> Garden road downhill->Garden Road uphill to get home. Turned on sport mode, shift lever in S mode.
1) F10 v2.0 is definitely more composed when tossed around curve roads. Having said that, it would not transform it into my 135i convert. But still, cruising at 70km/h for some curvy part and still felt very controlled. In my F10 v1.0, which doesn't have DHP, I will definitely not have the confidence to push it at those curves. One thing that I gotta mention is that I had my old wheels and tires back on the f10 v2.0 (Pirelli Pzero Hero). So this in my book is a pretty close (and fair enough for me) comparison of the DHP vs non-DHP. 2) For some reason, V2.0 feels more agile then my v1.0. I think they have updated the software for the IAS as somehow, the car feels way more responsive during curves in sport mode now, not that v1.0 was bad....... 3) BTW, there are slightly different settings for the car in the menu. For instance, i have an option to activate DRLs now which I didn't have on my v1.0...... There are a few more and see if I am time to take down a list of differences. All in all, I am happier with v2.0. BTW, one thing all of you guys taking about M Sport kit should be aware. The red reflectors on the M Sport bumpers are very high up close to the rear lighting module. I have the clear tail like but looks weird with the red reflectors so close to those.....

mlai, spirited run already? Got to break in again, bro. Hope you didn't rev it up too high, hehe. But you made us jealous with all the goodies. lol.
Though I don't have the goodies that you have, I have to say the F10 really needs lowering springs if without DHP (which you don't want to mess around). I had my H&R for a while now. It really drives differently from the stock springs which body roll is tremendously excessive. The rear reflectors at the M bumper is really weird. If I have them I will paint them the same as the body color. Those US vendors also offer painted reflector replacements.

mlai, thanks for your review and information. Congrats on your nice ride and options you have.
RC3, I have the same transmission malfunction when I picked up my car the second day from dealer earlier this month. When I started my car for like 2 mins and going down from a parking, the malfunction suddenly pop up on the computer screen. It can't change gear at all, until I restarted my car and everything back to normal. Straight to the dealer for checking and dropped my car with only 150km like new, they tested the car and reset computer (get data) back and forward few times, they called me 3-4 days later saying that my car is ready for pick up and no error or malfunction found. The bad thing is my car already running for more than 500km, when I picked up. Factory explained that it might be just minor computer error and need to restart and adapt to the personal driving habit when new. Now driving the car for around 3 weeks, it didn't come back again~ Suggest if this happens again, take back to dealer |

Seems like Mlai and Rc and I are driving two different cars! V8TT IAS,Adaptive (+everything else..) vs I6NA, non-IAS, non-Adaptive
It's good if they have updated the IAS software to give more of a difference, otherwise there would be no point if you couldn't tell the different by feel Look forward to more your comparisons of Adaptive after a while.. You can still break 3krpm in 1st if you Manual mode .. just hold on tightly to the steering wheel I still haven't gotten the urge to lower my car yet, I haven't seen any lowered f10's yet.. to 'shame' me into doing it We non-adaptive can upgrade the ARBs front and back, to lower body roll ..some ppl even keep the stock springs and go for the thicker ARBs first.. apparently to preserve ride quality, but lower body roll (and they don't care about looks obviously) What's with the transmissions? Mine is June, wonder if there is any difference.. I beat on mine quite alot .. but nothing |

Blame it on the weather!
Got my camera out with me today. Took the car out for a drive and hope to take some pics and...... It RAINED! Well. Guess will have to wait for sunny days to take pics. But I did take a quick snap on the whiteline rear lights to show how strange it looks with the M Sport rear bumper: DSC02569 by mlai2011, on Flickr PS. I have ordered some toys from 3D Design for the interior. Why couldn't BMW give us aluminum pedals like MB......... Last edited by mlai; 04-28-2011 at 03:15 AM.. |

Not seen one yet? We should do a meet so you can look at mine. But honestly the lowering springs have not slammed much. Mine are settled and I can still stick two fingers into the fender gaps for both front and rear.

mlai, I thought you have those 3DDesign alum pedals for you V1.0? You didn't collect them? Getting new ones?
The M sport package has alum. pedal, just one for the foot rest. Not for our retrofit guys. The white taillights go well with your alum. window trims. BTW, what makes you choose the oyster/black this time? I remember your V1.0 had black for your kids. The oyster black is really stunning but hard to maintain. I have jean marks on the right side of the driver seat from my slide in and out action. Have to use leather cleaner quite often.

And the white tailights do go well with the alum window trims and matches better with the stock front lighting assembly as well. Going with oyster/black because the pure black was too boring in my V1.0, and is just as difficult to clean. Luckily, I get my driver to clean it for me

Quick! All of us should drive 24hrs everyday so that our F10s will have 10,000km before we send them in for checking

Took another drive this afternoon from Blue Pond Road->Tai Hang Road->Wong Ngai Chung Gap Road->Repulse Road->Shek O->Eastern Island Corridor->Mid-Levels.
1) I can't believe I am saying this but...... I am appreciating the Comfort mode more when I have to follow slower traffic at windy roads. It does what it says, more comfortable. DHP in comfort mode reminds me of being in a S-Class. Sorry, don't know what the 7 rides like because I never owned one And passing thru road imperfection is definitely easier on my bottom in Comfort mode 2) 2nd observation is about IAS in Comfort mode vs sport. My v1.0 didn't have comfort mode so I couldn't tell much, except that car can corner tighter. Coming out from Shek O -> Eastern Corridor, there were traffic and roads were windy. However, I got an opportunity to step on it (up to only 3.5K rpm at a turn, and all of a sudden, I felt the F10 sliding out. Not skidding but sliding. And that reminded me that I was in comfort mode! The car really did what BMW said in marketing materials and more sliding (more comfortable as in changing lanes) with IAS on. So moral is: Don't do spirited driving on windy roads in Comfort mode with IAS. 3) Cornering in sport mode is awesome now with both IAS/DHP Drove most of the Repulse Bay road in sport mode and the car hugs the curves and stayed completely level 3) In sport mode, somehow the car handles like a smaller car even than my v1.0, in terms of suspension and responsiveness. I think BMW must have really tweaked the software since last July! So, to distill things a bit, my perfect F10 should be specc'ed as follows: Either 550i(can't drive above 4.5K rpm realistically, but tonnes of power) or 535i (more refined, but able to rev it up high in HK) IAS DHP M Sport Kit. 20" wheels, PSS tyres/PZ Hero tyres. And that's about it. PS. I purposely not talking about gas mileague here. Painful. |

Correct, they drove for around 350km or so. As what they told, this is the first time they found transmission malfunction on F10, especiall this new. So they sent e-mail to Germany and ask for details. Comes up the only thing that they can do is test drive, reset computer, getting data as a cycle. They test it for 3-4 days because the car is too new, they wanna make sure the error won't come up again. Otherwise, I will complaint them no doubt. Btw, they set my next service at 5000km, which I think should be 10000km normally. Will check with them at 5000km and see whether they want to check everything again just to make sure? Shouldn't be oil change. On the flip side, they provide me a courtesy car (7 series) which is also new, only about 130km on the car. I drove for around 500km either lol. Great comfort ride. |

Good review, mlai. I would love to have IAS now, just hate maneuvering in narrow driveway, u turn and 3 point turn. Drive like an idiot compared to my 3er.
IC, new 7er for loaner? That's cool. Guess it should be a test drive car. Bet you rev it up quite a bit. hehe.

Indeed we have two very different cars, with the taxes here, there can exist 2 different classes of cars within the same '5 series' name. The power of the turbo engines, with the DHP and IAS, can create a very 'spaceship' effect of little effort/high power, variable comfort settings, and lateral movement My 1/2 price 5 series I think I will drive as an overgrown 3 series, firm up the overall suspension for lower body roll but still high comfort, and smallish but playful NA engine.. its a simple car really We must accept our shortcomings. Or in the case of our F10 528i's without IAS, its over-longcomings |

RC3, yes 7er for loaner, I guess that's the manager new car. Of cause I did rev it up a bit, very comfort car for both drvier and passengers, boat like feel tho. When I got back the 5er, I expect the turning alot better, but still boat like feel, just not as much as 7er. So lowering the car is a must. Just my 2 cents. |
