Another bargain from our friends at BMW

OK, so I've had my new car for 4 1/2 months now and I get an email from BMW asking me if I want to upgrade my sat nav disk to version 13. The price? FROM $325!!! How much do you reckon it costs to make them? $2? I am definitely going to demand they just give me one for free. You pay thousands for sat nav and it's obsolete in 5 months? Upgrades like this should be complementary for at least the warranty period (3 years). Such great cars, such poor service.... It's the penny pinching that really gets to me.

Yep, got the same e-mail. Seems the DVD was produced in Dec 06. Ask your dealership for a no cost upgrade. Plus that 6233 mobile they should have given you! Depending on their level of after sales support they should give this to you free of charge.

What a ripoff. I bought an $800 aftermarket Sat Nav for my wifes car.
Is touch screen, quick and easy to operate, has red light and fixed camera warning, more features and free upgrades.

A real pity that bmw can be presumably at the cutting edge of motor vehicle technology but can't produce a quick, easy to use and functional sat nav and then has the audacity to charge for a new map!

Recruiter, how does the red light and fixed camera warning system work? Do you have to program them in yourself or is there software upload capability for this? And how does it warn you (how far before the camera?)

I am definitely going to ask for the new disk and the phone and cradle- When I pay for something I expect to get it- we shall see...

BMW makes a fortune on options and aftermarket stuff. $40+ for a BMW keyring for pete's sake! (not that I want one but I saw the prices when I was at the dealer) so nothing surprises me!

I'm very interested in how you go with your dealer. Picked up my car 3 weeks ago and got the same email earlier this week. Haven't spoken to the dealership yet, but will be calling them to ask about this.

AdrianT - Have you checked which Nav disc you got? I got my 335 3 weeks ago too and it came with Version 13 (ie the latest disc).

I would expect free upgrade for at least the first 12 months. Pretty poor effort to make you pay for the upgrade sooner than this.

Anyone know if you can "share" DVD, or would this infringe copyright?
