Annoying curling floor mats?
I recently purchased a 2008 E92, manual. I find the floor mats to be really annoying. They curl up and interfere with my clutch pedal. On the passenger side, they are really curled up too. I've never seen this with any other car before, even cheap ones.
If I buy new mats will this still be a problem? Do they start curling really quickly? Also, are there better mats such as for the m-sport or 335is that I could get? Or are they all the same? Are 2011 mats the same as the older ones? Thanks in advance for any input.

I feel your pain. I have my own "straighten while driving" dance maneuver I do to straighten it.
Annoying as hell... The loaners I have driven had thick rubber all weather mats that I am thinking of switching to. |

I think all the mats have the velcro mats on them.
My car is a 6MT and I have noticed the corner of my mats doing this as well. I think its caused the constant movement of the sole of your shoes trying to drag the mat along when you go to modulate the clutch. I am going to replace my mats, I don't like to keep floor mats longer than a year or so anyway, they just get nasty looking.

They're OEM BMW carpet mats? I've never had a problem with them curling or coming undone from the Velcro. The biggest problem i have with them is wear through from my heel.

I have the OEM winters and they do that. Not sure about the OEM summers as I was given them but they look so cheap I just threw them in the basement. Funny how with Toyota, it becomes a massive recall, but with BMW, they just renew their contract with Macneil and call it a day.

Your mats are not OEM, they are after market. I have original 2007 mats in my 335i 6MT and they are flat and perfect. Throw those out, and get OEM mats from Tischer. Thats why BMW mats cost $120...

BMW mats are free when you buy the car new, one set of rubber, one set of carpeted. Not free from BMW, free from the dealership. Don't know why anyone would pay $120 for mats. The rubber are made by macneil. Not sure who makes the carpeted but they are cheap junk.

Has anyone here purchased sisal mats for their BMW? These used to be popular in German cars years ago and are pretty durable. I noticed a few suppliers around that sell them for about $150-200 for a set of four mats. I had them in an old Lotus and they were great.

My original carpeted mats curled up and were replaced under warranty. There may have been a bad batch of mats.
BTW, I use the rubber winter mats all the time now -- the carpeted mats are stored in plastic for when I sell the car.

Problem is I don't plan on selling my car, I'll just buy another when the time is right. But with $6 gas according to the national news, I may not be driving anymore. |

I set my factory mats aside and bought a set of Lloyd Luxe Mats. I'm very impressed with them, they're extremely well made, durable and plush. I posted some pics if you're interested.

Imho things aren't constructed as well anymore. I lifted the mats out of the new Jaguar XJ, and they are no better than the 3 OEM carpeted--not lambs wool.
What do I consider a good mat? The OEM in my 1998 Nissan. Still in good shape, has the model embroidered, and most of all, the car has a peg that fits into a hole that is grommeted in the mat. These little details are apparently too expensive to do nowadays. Probably macneil told BMW no way for what you're paying us per mat. |

Thank you everyone else for your suggestions, I will see if they will replace under warranty and hope the new ones fare better.

i have OEM rubber mats, they come with these hooks that screws into the pre-drilled carpet and then just hook them through the holes on the rubber mats
even without using the hooks, i never had a problem with the mats rolling up |

BMW changed the mats. The E9x used to come with the thicker, plush mats as found in the 5 and 7 Series. In the newer cars (either 2008+ or 2009+, can't remember exactly) they're significantly lower quality.

I got my car used, but all it has are carpeted mats and the driver's one curls under the clutch all the time. No velcro on the pedal end of the mat. And on the other end, there is velcro on the mat, but no velcro on the carpet of the car. What makes that end stick to the floor? And I added velcro to the end under the pedals.
