XM Radio in 335xi?
I have just ordered a new 335xi which is prewired for Sirius. I want to install XM Radio (yes, I know that they are merging) but only if it can be integrated with steering wheel controls and display as with Sirius. I have seen kits for this with earlier 3's (XM Direct) but not for newer than 2004.
Has anyone done this or know if it can be done? Thanks - John |

To the best of my knowledge there is no such fully integrated solutions out there. They were supposed to release such a kit but no updates/news since.
For now, some folks are tapping xm units into the shark fin and feeding audio via the aux in...not the integrated approach you're looking for.

ref: the merger
isn't xm owned by hughes network systems...which is why we see xm radio channels on directv..... and isn't sirius owned by the company that owns dish network? which is why we see sirius radio on dish network msuic channels? so if they merged. wouldn't hughes and (insert company who owns dish here) also have to merge? or can they release their hold on each of the sat radio companies and let them form a new corporation? |

XM and Sirius are embodied in their own corporations. I didn't check it out, but it is likely you are right that Hughes and Dish are parent corporations, but all they have to do is basically sell the stock of XM or Sirius to the other, and they become the owner (assuming that they own enough stock to control the corporation). Sorry, this stuff is my life and it gets really technical, but just think of it as if you own all the stock in a corporation, and you want to sell it to get a high level understanding.
The real problem with the proposed merger is that in order to get their licenses XM and Sirius agreed to never merge. This means that the FCC can block the merger for this reason alone. In addition the FTC and DOJ may have antitrust reasons to block the merger. The two companies are probably going to have to present a very compelling business and economic reason to be able to get approval. |
