Service reset DIY

Guys I looked everywhere (maybee not hard enough ) for a DIY service reset for E90 but couldn`t find one. So decided to try the E60 DIY which wasn`t too far off. I realise most cars are still under warranty but I will use this to replace my own brake pads and microfilter instead of being fleeced by the $tealers.

Step 1
Insert key into slot
Step 2
Press start/stop button without depressing clutch/brake and wait for the service reminder to dissapear.
Step 3
Immediately after service reminder goes out, press and hold the odometer reset. After 3 secs a warning triangle will appear, keep the odo. button pressed and after another 2-3 secs the Oil can will appear. I f you hold it too long (10 secs in total) you will overshoot the runway and some German writing will appear giving the software level/ can bus etc. of the car. Go back to the beginning and start again.
Step 4
You are now in the service menu, use the toggle switch on indicator stalk to scroll up/down through the various service items.
Step 5
When you have the item you want to reset showing, press the BC button on end of indicator stalk. Reset should now appear in the display. Press in and hold the BC button for 2-3 secs and a clock will start whirling around and hey presto, its done
Step 6
You can now either scroll up/down to select another item (as in step 4) or you can press the start/stop button to exit.

Sorry if this a re-post guys but like I said I couldn`t find it anywhere.
I accept no responsibility if you break your car, this is done at your own risk.

you are missing something, that menu is LOCK to unlock it, you need to go in the menu to option 19 and is going to said "lock on" and then "code 00" to find your code you have to add the last 5 digits of your VIN, my unlock code is 20 then you nove the "code 00" to "code 20" then that menu will have many options like oil temp, cabin temp, real speed, time that said how many hours you have driven and the last one said "RESET" that's the one that you click and it will reset your service

I tried this and all it reset was my MPG, average MPH, distance travelled etc, but not my service.

Didn't work for me either. I get the German writing and no other options; tried it tons of times.

I have no idea what you`re talking about, honestly

As for the others follow the instr. carefully and it will work.

A word of warning `tho if you don`t want to alter the date of next service, you`ll need to change the date in your car to the date when the last service was done. Otherwise the computer will aytomatically change the date to 2 yrs from todays date. (hope that makes sense)

I can confirm this works perfectly, when you follow the instructions given.

I do have a question on the "next service date". My computer did change the next service to 2 years from now. Not a big deal, I service my car when I want to, I don't care about BMW's free service. But, could you explain again about changing the computer's date to fix the 2 year service thing?

Thanks

Nice, to set the "next service date" to a desired date, choose your date, deduct 2 years, then before you reset the service alter the date in your settings to that date.

This DIY is a keeper. Can you list everything that can be reset? List it as a reference here. (milkem and calvino "code 20")

**UPDATE**

The service indicators can still be reset even when the inspection symbol appears (car on a lift)

All you have to do is insert key hit the start button and wait for the red car on a lift to disappear (about 10-15 secs) before holding down the trip reset button.

I just picked up my car yesterday, and I have that inspection symbol showing up, what does that mean? Can I reset that?

I think that may happen if no service is due, thats what happened to mine when I tried it when a service wasn't due.
