Painting Chrome Trim Black

Almost ready to have the chrome trim on my 2011 e92 painted black (finally!). There is some question as to whether the chrome trim is covered with a "coating" to which paint will not adhere .

You guys know anything about that?

Nope.....you just need to have the trim drying for a few days....keep the doors open. Disconnect the battery.

Well, actually it's not chrome - it's Bright Dipped Aluminum. So it does have a coating that gives it the shiny appearance.

You should be fine as long as the trim is prepped properly - light sanding, thorough cleaning, priming with proper paint prior to finish coat.

Actually, If I thought I could get all the trim off without damaging/bending it at all I would send them out to be powdercoated - which is much more durable than regular paint.

So I decided to go with the Shadowline vinyl method (if I ever get a chance to get to it)
