When you say spots, do you mean little tiny embedded spots, or areas inside the wheel with a lot of dust? If you mean little spots, clay will take them off; it's just embedded brake dust.

If you're just having trouble with brake dust in general try an all purpose cleaner like simple green, and if that doesn't work you can try a wheel cleaner (let us know if the apc doesn't work and some members will recommend good wheel cleaners).

Give meguiar's All wheel cleaner a try. It's purple and it sprays on the wheel.. Let it stay their for 15-20 seconds and rinse off with water at good amount of force. If it's really bad, use it and use the scrubber thing. I was AMAZED at how the after result was. That product pretty much did 85% of the work. All i did was rinse and wipe a bit. And for the rear rims i used the scrubbing thing.. Rims look SOOO much better than my usual soap water scrub work... Will always buy this from now on. I always trust Meguiar's products. Oh and to keep them good i hear wheel wax is REALLY good. I'm picking one up this friday on pay day!

I take 5 minutes twice a week and wipe the "brake" dust off of my wheels. Absolutely no brake dust problem for me. 10 minutes a week saves you a lot of time in the long run.

+1 on the 5 minutes a week thing.

However, to make your life much much easier, Poor Boy's World sells a wheel sealant that repels the brake dust to make it come right off with water. www.poorboysworld.com .

Wheel Wax does the job in a similar fashion, but it's much harder to buff out. And I just love the smell of that pink PB wheel sealant

+1 on the Poorboys wheel sealant. You will still get brakedust, but it seems to stick less and come off much easier than without the sealant. I had 3 coats on each wheel on my M3. With that I would just wash the wheels with soap and water. No cleaner needed.

i used a claybar to get over-spray off my wheels, maybe that would work.
