Rotor Swap
Anyone in the Bay Area willing to swap rear rotors? I just got my car back from service and here is the data they provided me:
L/F rotors measured @ 26.69mm R/F rotors measured @ 26.60mm Spec for replacement < 26.4mm L/R rotors measured @ 19.75mm R/R rotors measured @ 19.54mm Spec for replacement < 18.4mm So I'm close to getting new front rotors for free, but the rears will probably still take a while yet =/ My warranty ends next month and I was wondering if anyone has extended or later-expiring warranty and would like to help me get new rear rotors? If your rear rotors are pretty low, we can do a swap, and by the time your warranty runs out, you'll probably get your free ones as well I only have 2 more track days scheduled before the end of April, and I'm pretty certain I can wear out my fronts in time, but not my rears |

Let me measure my rears. I'm almost certain they're below spec or close to being below spec.
I'm not in the bay area though.

hahah probably still won't be enough to wear out the rears. The fronts took long enough, doubt the rears are as easy
Yeah, measure yours and lemme know if you'd be willing to swap. Where are you located exactly? Worst case we could ship the rotors to each other. USPS should be the cheapest as far as shipping rates go. |

Don't try and grind off pad material because it comes off in chunks. Don't ask me how I know My front rotors are below minimum thickness as well as showing signs of cracking around the holes. I bit the bullet and ordered fresh front rotors from Tischer. Doesn't pay to neglect brakes when doing 15 to 20 track events per season. It's the cost of having fun

haha we're going to try to pull the "customer reports juddering/excessive vibration under braking" trick lol.
And since it's shown on the service history that I just did brake pads and fluid flush, then the only questionable items left are the rotors |

lol sand rotors? I've never heard of sanding rotors. Is it just like turning/machining/resurfacing them? |

Yeah I saw that. Definitely one route to go. Trying to get everything for free though
Just a reference for myself and anyone else: Front rotors from Tischer BMW = $200 + shipping (each) Rear rotors from Tischer BMW = $155 + shipping (each) Turner fronts on sale = $500 + shipping (pair) Turner rears on sale = $300 + shipping (pair) Shipping to California for a set of four rotors = $83 edit: so it looks like Tischer is still the cheaper route altogether lolll Last edited by mfanatic325; 03-31-2011 at 09:03 PM.. |

There's also this idea from The Hack in case the plan for rotors doesn't pan out: http://www.racingbrake.com/BMW_p/D401-01-311.htm
T-hill with JD1PT and his buddy rocked today. I'll start a thread once I get some food in me (I was downloading what I learned today to the computer from my brain/log book just now). Long day. Short story is I learned a lot (great instructor) and was waaaaayyyyy smoother and faster my last two sessions. 'Kitty improved tremendously during the day as well. And most importantly we left the track happy and ready for more. |

I'll be posting pics tomorrow, way to freakin tired to get off my ass tonight...Was watching u both from the second floor on ur last run. U both looked really good! Lon I'd swap, but prob gonna have to do some slight of hand myself before warranty is up. Might do a pad swap with u later in the year if I still have lots left.
