I would have to say paint. The vinyl does not come out all that good.

Plastidip's rough texture makes anything look like shit, when it ages after about 3 months it gets even worse when it becomes gray/brown looking.
Need to take mine off next week.

Plasti-dip. If you don't do a good job applying it, the texture may be rougher than you want, and there's no doubt that it'll never be as smooth as a glossy paint that's properly applied, but it has several things going for it:
- It's inexpensive
- It's removable at any time
- It's a hell of a lot easier to remove than paint, which if you are simply "curious" and not certain, is a big plus
- It's easier to apply properly than is paint to a polished and clear coated aluminum surface. There's a reason people will pay money to have a car or car parts painted.

Good luck and all the best.

If you use plastidip, make sure you warm the can in some sink water. It'll spray a lot better and smoother.

I vinyl mine and man i'm happy...the result is phenomenal! More expensive then plastidip but definitely nicer and it is cheaper buying a full black set from the steeler! check out my tread for pics:

A can of black plastidip is around $6. If you apply it properly it can come out looking pretty good without a lot of texture. Mine is smooth enough to dry it with a microfiber cloth after washing the car without fibers from the towel catching on the trim. The key is not apply it from too far away and spray in one even coat approx 6" away. 4 or so coats will do it. It looks like a blob of a mess when it is applied, but it will dry evenly and smoothly. I did mine almost 6 months ago and it holds up well and still looks great throughout the NC summer. By far the cheapest way to go.

why would you use plasti-dip? the matte finish makes the car look like a 325i/328i id rather go for the gloss finish.

Ease of use and price. I tried to vinyl it prior and it was such a PITA. I had seams and all due to the bend in the trim. In the end, ease of use and $$.

Spend a little more and be fully satisfied with a gloss black trim instead. When I plastidipped my grills correctly, it was textured and changed to a ugly color.

There are 2 ways to wrap it:

1. Easy way that costs more, buy a roll that is wide enough to cover all the trims at once instead of having to stretch/angel a thinner piece over the trims. You will have a lot of wasted material, or you can make a cutout in the middle before you peel and save that section to wrap your interior or emblems or something.

2. Harder way that costs less money, buy a thinner roll and slowly apply to entire trim. I helped my friend do this and it wasn't hard as long as you have a heat gun.

I have a friend who got a plastidip shop to do his entire car and it looked/felt like crap. It was nasty.. matte yellow. And just a month ago, someone poured goo gone all over his car and it ate half his plastidip. LOL

Gloss black vinyl!

Plastidip is cheap, and looks it. Crappy rough matte finish.

+1 vinyl, did mine with matte to match the black grills. Overall ok, but rocks and debris can nick the vinyl. Noticed one small spot the other day.

Plasti-dip now has a spray "glossifier." You spray it over the Plasti-dip. I think it overcomes the matte finish of the regular stuff.
