Tuesday March 22 2011 - Hans

BMW´s M5-testdrivers have almost finished their job. In April BMW will unveil an M5 Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show and not long after that unveilling the production model will debut. Here we have the latest nice spyshots of the new M5 with less camouflage on it.

I am torn between the M5 and Nissan GTR, I am concerned the M5 will be £80K and that for me will kill it.
I still see these pictures as not enough Difference to the M Sport, I hope I am proved wrong.

If I could order a 535i or 550i in an attractive blue, with the M Sport package & 6-speed manual, I'd be a happy camper. However, in BMW's infinite wisdom, you can't order the Deep Sea Blue with M Sport, only reg sport pkg. The Imperial Blue is available with M Sport, but that's way too dark. I don't understand why DSB isn't available. I might have to get an M5 just to get that delicious Monte Carlo Blue !

I still wonder what are they hiding under the hood camo?... every test mule has had it camo'ed so i feel strongly that something is there. I doubt they would ever do the bulge, so that can only mean vents of some sort? Does anyone have an idea?

None of the prototype photos so far have the carbon fiber roof or ceramic brakes. So I am guessing at launch these will not be available options. I remember reading in another m5 thread, they talked about a track version of the m5. Maybe a zcp option or pseudo csl version will be provided sometime after launch which will offer more sporting options.

But, isn't the M5 all about being a quietly styled monster? To be honest the M5 E60 didn't look much different than a 550i M-sport.

The only differences between the E60 M5 and the standard E60 5-series with M sport package, were the dual exhaust tips on each side, the gills in the front wings and the lack of fog lights.

Errr... good for you??? But, we know that as soon you drive the new M5, you will swap your M3 leasing for the M5's.

I will give it a chance, my car is only a few months old so next Jan would be my next new car.
By that time all will be revealed well and truly and just maybe the new M3 will be on the horizon.

Pardon me if Im asking a stupid question but since the F10 M5 have almost finished testing, why would the M5 concept still be shown in the april show and the production concept later?

Damn, drop a new ECU and spring set in a well equiped 550i Msport and call it done, any questions?

If that manhart (sp) m3 with the same ttV8 can pump out over 700 hp, I would imagine the tuning options for this are going to be fantastic.

I am liking what I see, and if it is a slightly more aggresive look than the 550 msport, I think it would be a winning package. I have yet to see a set of wheels on the car that I like though.

I'm sorry, but I don't think a tuned 550i will be able to keep up with an M5.

If by tune you only mean an ecu software change, then you might be right (we don't even know the final specs of the next m5). But if you mean a modded 550i, well then the sky is the limit and a stock f10 m5 might be eating dust.
