Autofold Mirrors...Retrofit?

Does anybody know if you can retrofit the autofold mirrors on the e90, i know on the e46s all you had to do was just swap mirrors and plug in the switch...is it possiable on e90s?

Why not? I am guessing you never have to park on the side of a street or worry about the guy next to you taking off your side view mirror, or ever had it done to you. It Sucks, a lot. This would be nice without having to order the Premium Package

I was installing sirius in an e92 earlier today and when i went to the retrofit screen on the programming computer, i saw the auto folding mirrors as one of the retrofits in the selection. So with that I am assumming it is possible. I already priced out the mirrors and switch and my cost is a little over 400. Did you get confirmation from jd that its possible?

With what i saw on the retrofit selection menu im 99% convinced it can work..

THIS DOES NOT WORK EVEN WITH MEMORY SEATS! I took the gamble and fitted the power mirrrors and switch as i have memory seats in my 2007 E91 but sadly the switch would only operate the mirror tilt and windows and would not fold! I spent around £350 after obtaining the correct parts from REAL, even the BMW parts chap said that they should work after cross referencing the part numbers to my cars spec!

I am an electrician so im going to do a bit more digging on this re the wiring, my mate has a 2005 E90 with folding mirors so if he lets me pop his arm rest switch out im going to test the wiring connections. My car has 7 wires into the back of the armrest switch, im hoping i may just need to fit a link from this to the mirrors but i will have to wait and see! Meanwhile if anyone with folding mirrors could pop their armrest switches out, gently with a blunt instrument such as an old credit card to get leverage, then id be very interested to find out how many cables and what colours there is.

If youre thinking of speccing these on your new E90/91, spend the little extra now to save the hassle and expense later.

Did you take it to the dealer to have that option retrofitted after you installed the mirrors and switch???

No ive not done this, could this be the reason why it doesnt work? Im assuming that they have to program this and its something that cannot be done by a DIY novice? Any info would be great. Thanks

Anyone have any more info on dealers electronically programming the "Retrofitting" options to the car once the parts have been physically installed?? This is the first ive heard?

Is the retrofitting option to enable the cars electronics / relays outputs functions to perform other tasks etc?? Ive come to a complete stand still with this??

Quick update for budding E90, E60 etc modders or anyone running a late BMW on the folding mirrors, and a request for further assistance!

It appears that the US dealers have the option of "folding mirrors" on their BMW programming software (BMW OPS GT1 SSS) to "Flash" the electronic modules enabling the mirrors after retrofit installation to operate. This is based upon your car having a few of the options listed on REAL OEM so check and double check before you hand out your $$$ at your local parts dept. Unfortunately here in the UK our dealer’s don’t appear to have the mirrors as a retro fit option on the BMW programming software, albeit the part codes for the mirrors and switch are exactly the same in the UK as the US??? Crazy!! And they charge us more for our cars!!!

I am currently therefore looking for anyone who can supply me with a cheap US version of the OPS SSS software disc so i can experiment with the UK Version for compatibility to try and enable these mirrors to work on UK vehicles! I dont expect the software to be that far dissimilar, any IT teccies may wish to advise on this?? The software also does not appear to be exclusively for BMW main dealer franchises and appears to be freely available to aftermarket garages on the open market for fault diagnostic and programming operations.

Any UK aftermarket BMW Garages out there with the UK version of the OPS SSS system willing to experiment with the US version of this disc, now’s your opportunity to make £££'s by being the first aftermarket specialist to hopefully program the retrofit option to selected later BMW cars such as E90's, E60's etc. especially if its anything to go by the success with the growing demand for retrofitting folding mirrors on the E46 and E39model !!

Id be intersted in hearing more on this from the people in the know who have had experience with flashing modules via the OPS SSS system!
