Wow, would have thought they would have broken it up into multiple shipments.
I have replaced a damaged caliper and the hardest part was getting it to bleed correctly. I would invest in a brake bleeder kit if you don't already have one I have the one from BavAuto Just search "PB03K" http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp

Just waiting on a tischer order with my fluid+anti squeak paste Only concerned that the lines from the calipers weren't covered/plugged in any way. How do calipers get damaged? |

So it had free, clamped onto the rotor slamming into each side of the dust shield and eventually tearing a hole in the line and grinding down the caliper. My brother who doesn't respect cars had been driving it and didn't bother to mention anything wrong until it stopped working. Only thing we could think of was they took the caliper off at the dealer to mic the rotor and forgot to put the bolts back in. There is no way for us to prove it so we went ahead and go all new stuff.

You'll enjoy those brakes and feel a difference. I have done the conversion as well. It's also nice eye candy if you get some nice rotors because the 335i's fronts are massive compared to stock 325i/328i/330i

Size-wise, as mentioned above, 330 and 335 brakes are almost identical, however a large difference from 325/328 sizes. |

I have 335 Msport brakes on my 328 non sport - its a huge improvement.
You might need the 335 parking brake assembly to make that work though, just a heads up |

Luckily the car was still drivable but would only stop if the pedal was pressed all the way down then the brakes would grab. The rest of the three lines were still intact.

According to realoem, e-brake is the same so I think I'm OK. Stock brakes will be shipped sometime next week!

@yakev724 - so how did your brake conversion turn out? What parts did you order besides the carrier and calipers?

Worked well, the rears are identical so you only need to swap fronts. I ended up swapping all 4 since that's what was sold to me and the brakes I received were newer than mine.
For the fronts, you'll need calipers, carrier brackets, possibly lines which connect to calipers (just the immediate lines), pads, pad clips, and rotors. Not a bad idea to pick up some stainless lines, a few on the boards have installed them with good results. The install isn't difficult. I've never worked with brake fluid before but it doesn't just come out as I expected it to, but rather slowly drips out due to pressure, so that makes the whole process much easier. Just keep the reservoir topped up and not in danger of drying and you'll be fine. 2 small bottles of the BMW fluid is enough for the swap and to flush the whole system. You'll also want to pick up a small brake bleeding kit for a few $, it'll make the job easier. I don't think there's too much difference brake-wise. The front is only larger by several mm. I have found it much easier to buy second-hand or aftermarket rotors/pads for the 335 as opposed to the 330. I wouldn't go out of my way to do the swap unless I was given a great deal on parts. I suggest looking into 135i brakes as they are a bit nicer and some have done the swap with them as well. Stopping-power/experience wise, I immediately noticed them to be much smoother than my 330 brakes, but braking power was very similar. The smoothness could be attributed to new rotors/pads/fluid and not the new brake setup. Oh, and also, you'll need 17" wheels to clear the brakes, but that shouldn't be an issue on your 330. Good luck! |
