Addiction therapy

Bear with me, it's a quiet monday night!

My guilt is killing me (nearly ), following recent comments from my long suffering (and beautiful) wife I thought I would attempt to calculate the extent of my 4 wheeled addiction - it's not pretty. God knows how much I have spent (wasted/enjoyed) over the last 27 years, but there is at least £80,000 in depreciation alone (buying costs are a significant amount more - c£370,000) in the cars I have bought and sold. Still, I have no other vices

1984 (1976) Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe
1985 (1975) MGB GT
1987 (1984) MG Montego EFi
1988 (1985) MG Montego Turbo

That makes me feel much better though

2000 - Mk1 Focus 1.8 Sport
2001 - Golf Mk2 Driver 1.3
2002 - VW Astra Coupe 1.6
2003 - Ford Focus 1.6
2004 - Seat Leon TDI
2006 - E46 320D M sport
2009 - E90 LCI 320D M Sport

Though add wifes cars
2006 - Focus 2.0 TDCI Titanium
2008 - FOcus 2.0 TDCI Titanium
2008 - FOcus 2.0 TDCI Titanium (yep two in space of a month)
2010 - B-Class 2.0CDI Sport

It all also starts to add up and now shes talking of a sports car.

hmm 135i sounds appealing any other suggestions.

I think its not just the cars themselves its the expenditure on various mods, body kits, sound systems and misc upgrades I hate to add it all up

Oh, this is a good distraction from revision . Mine's quite simple (from my sign-off...) -:

2000 (1998?) - Ford Probe 2.0
2001 (2001) - Astra Coupe Turbo
2004 (2004) - S2000
2005 (2005) - 350Z Coupe
2006 (2003) - Maserati 4200
2007 (2007) - E92 335i Coupe SE
2008 (2006) - E91 330d Saloon M Sport
2009 (2008) - 350Z Roadster
2010 (2004) - RX8
2010 (2003) - E46 330i M Sport

Many highlights, struggle to choose a favourite, but probably between the 335i or 350Zs, but the worst was the bag of shite RX8 (that was fookin' awful ). To be fair, as first cars go, it didn't start off too badly; don't know quite what happened in 2010 though .

Nothing wrong with the Astras. They seem to be a common choice here so far.

I really liked the GSi. I still think they look fresh in Arden blue to this day.

The first Astra coupe was a nightmare. My first brand new car on a 51 plate and the dealer made a big issue about the new style reg and had a party for about 70 people picking their new cars up at midnight.

My car was crammed into the corner and I could barely see it. I was also the only one to get a personal escort to my car and the door opened for me too.

Drove home and my brother was there waiting. Both of us noticed right away the drivers door was about 10 shades of silver different than the rest of the car!

Other than that they were reliable and any issues quickly sorted by Vauxhall.

You appear to have forgotten to own an M3 Peter

EDIT : I'm wondering if you can actually work out when a bloke got married from these lists - I'm guessing single when buying the 5GTs - but come the 1.6LX Montego the wedding band was on. Close?

PS Still want a CLK55

WOW! Some of you change cars within a year or two regularly!

Mine is a simple list cars that I have bought in my life, prior to which was what my mum had bought (I have been main family driver since I got my license).

2006 (2006) Mazda 6 MPS 56Plate. Loved it! But after over 11K miles in 6 months the costs of regular service (3K and then 10K) and fuel were getting a bit much.

2007 (2006) BMW 330d (06 Plate). Love it still, itching to change but jobless & financially strapped. Not worth selling though as still does long-haul drives. Bought with 11K and now on 73K miles.

Ohhhh... do I have to????

1995 - Citroen BX GTi (I had the fastest first car out of all my mates and it's benign handling saved my life more than once!)
1996 - Citroen Saxo 1.5D (with a years free insurance)
1997 - Citroen Saxo 1.4i (when the free insurance ran out on the first oneI got another year on this - cheaper to buy a new car than insure the old one!)
1998 - Citroen Saxo VTR (everyone who was anyone had one back then)
1999 - Toyota Celica VVTi (one of the first new shape ones in the UK)
2001 - Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec ESP
2001 - Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
2002 - Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo Plus
2003 - Alfa Romeo 147 GTA
2004 - Alfa Romeo 155 Cloverleaf (temporary car whilst waiting for the next one)
2004 - Alfa Romeo 146 Ti (another temporary car as I didn't like the first one)
2004 - Alfa Romeo 147 GTA (exchanged due to the first one going wrong so much)
2005 - Alfa Romeo 156 2.4 20v JTD
2006 - Alfa Romeo 147 GTA (I liked them, OK!)
2007 - BMW 335i
2008 - BMW M3
2009 - Nissan Micra (bought to sell for profit...and succeeded)
2009 - BMW M6 (I also made a profit on this one!)
2009 - Renault Laguna (temporary car whilst waiting for the next one)
2009 - Mercedes C63 AMG PP
2010 - Mercedes C63 AMG PP Plus
2010 - Porsche 911 Turbo

OK, I've had some sh!t in that list (not as bad as some of you lot though) but at the time they all seemed to make sense

Oh, I forgot the missus. I've been with her for 3 years prior to which she owned one car and hadn't passed her test.

Since passing her test, my influence has resulted in....

2007 - VW Lupo 1.4E
2009 - Fiat Grande Punto Sporting
2009 - Mini Cooper S
2010 - Citroen DS3
2010 - BMW 135i
2011 - Mini Cooper JCW

Not bad for her - it's actually 5 cars in a 2 year period!

I've worked out that since this time last year (when she still had the first Mini Cooper S and I had my black C63), between us there's been a different car on average every 8 weeks

Sintra

You appear to have forgotten to own an M3 Peter

EDIT : I'm wondering if you can actually work out when a bloke got married from these lists - I'm guessing single when buying the 5GTs - but come the 1.6LX Montego the wedding band was on. Close?

PS Still want a CLK55
The first 5GT was a year old (in white), I liked it so much I traded for a brand new one in Red!

The Sintra was a motability car, it won lots of awards for being the worse car ever made!

Not far off with regards marraige date. I got married in 1990, son born in 1991 and we bought our first house in 1992. I held on with the Xr4x4 for a while and then plunged to the depths of family car shitness with the Carlton Estate/Montego

Interesting to see that most of us started in some right old s*****ers....but all eventually ended up in some decent metal
