Used Kw's or new?
Hey guys,
I'm looking to get some Kw's for my car and found someone with a pretty good offer on a set of KW's with 45k on them and 1.5yrs old. I do have the money for new, but if I can save some money I can put that into an AA tune. How well do KW's age? As long as they aren't driven hard, are used ones okay to go with? Are there anythings in particular that I should check? |

Ive read they dont age well, but it could just be hogwash too. Hopefully others will chime it, but 45k is a bit on the high mileage side.

Yeah thats true 45k is high, especially for 1.5yo shocks. Okay haha, I guess with that I'll just go new.

The miles are alittle high in my option, I'm running KW's and love them, but I would buy new. You will love them.

45k miles is getting pretty high (maybe 60-75k before they need to be rebuilt) for what are essentially revalved Koni dampeners. KW has a lifetime warranty, but it is only available to the original owner.

Have heard more than just a few bad things about KWs so I went with Bilsteins.

Unfortuantely I'm in an xi, and only B8's are available and I haven't been able to find much in terms of reviews for them.

That depends.....45k miles are high but what type of miles are they? You can completely destroy the valving in any aftermarket coilover within 5k if you tried really hard. Figure in 100 bucks per corner for a rebuild and rethink how much youre actually saving.

KW coilovers do come with a lifetime warranty. However, this lifetime warranty is not transferable from user to user so you do have to take that into consideration as well. Sure, purchasing a used set may be cheaper, but you honestly do not know if you're getting a setup that has been used and abused or if they're actually in good condition. Either way, we are running some killer deals on brand new sets of KW coilovers so feel free to shoot me PM if you have any quesitons at all!

Yeah Alan, thats why I was wary of the used coils. I called KW and they confirmed the lifetime warranty is non transferable and considering the hit and miss luck I've heard with KW's, I don't think I'll be risking getting use coils.

parts with a life limit i generally try to buy new. Like suspesion / tires etc. You may spend less now, but it will cost you more in the close future.
