UK 2.5l N52 - Is this a two stage intake manifold as standard?!
Hi guys, again I thought I'd post in here as there's some good knowledge regarding the N52.
As some may know from my other posts I have a uk 2.5i Z4 with the 2500cc N52 motor. Originally I thought that my car had a three stage intake manifold as standard, as it has the clearly visible DISA motor on the outside of the manifold. However when I had a closer look today it appears as though I have a two stage manifold - The section on the rear of the manifold where the second DISA motor should be is blanked out I think, and the connection plug/wire is sat on a clip at the rear of the manifold. Am I correct here (see photo's)? the 2.5i I have has 177bhp, there was also a 2.5si available in the UK with the same 2500cc N52 motor putting out 218bhp - I'm guessing the extra DISA flap and tuning is where the extra power comes from (the rest of the engine components are identical). What's strange is that RealOEM shows the actual intake manifold for the 2.5i and the 2.5si having different part numbers, but shows both to be a three stage system with identical part numbers for the DISA motors etc. Hence I thought the manifold on the 2.5i was three stage but just more restricted - obviously not the case. This may also interest some people with (Canadian I think) 323i's, I think I've read on the forum a couple of times people think the canadian 323i is a N52 with a three stage manifold, but detuned down from the 218bhp 325i via the map - this may not be the case, it could be a two stage manifold as with the Z4. Here's the photo's... Cheers |

Interesting. Looks like it's a 2-stage with the other hole plugged up. That's where the other motor should be. Your pictures also show the other cable that's just propped up on the manifold. That one will connect to the other DISA motor. I wonder if you can just drill that hole open and slap the DISA in there. If it true, you can upgrade for less than $500 if you DIY.

That's what I was wondering, however is there normally clips or something similar which hold the DISA in place? I had a quick look and it doesn't look like that blanking plate is removable, I'm presuming the plastic bit of the manifold which the DISA's sit in is moulded that way in the factory - hence the different part number for the 2.5i and 2.5si manifold? Used manifolds are extremely hard to find in the UK aswell. It would have been nice/cheap to be able to just put another DISA in there instead of getting a new manifold! Lol.

there are screws that hold it in place, but they go in from the opposite side of the manifold, and the holes are cast into the manifold itself, so you'd probably need to do some custom work to put it on. Not sure if you would be able to do it the same way.

Fraser-Z4, did you finally install a 3 stage manifold + 2nd DISA motor ? My car has the same manifold (11617559526) without 2nd DISA (11617560538). Hope to understand whether it's good to do such replacement.
