E90 Transmission problems?
Need some advice.
So I was driving my 2007 323i home today when the car suddenly just wouldn't move/accelerate after I braked to slow down. After ramping the rpm up to around 3, it finally moved, slowly, and I was able to get it/roll it home (I was only about a minute away, thankfully), but the transmission light came on yellow (the gear with the exclamation mark) and the engine indicator light lit up yellow as well. Walked out, found that I was leaking a trail of red transmission fluid. Here's the kicker - I had literally JUST got the car back from a shop (some third party shop my insurance had chosen for me after I was in a fender bender over the holidays) about 5 days ago. Called up the shop, the guy is sending someone over to check tomorrow morning (he suspects the transmission seal broke or became loose somehow), but I don't know how that would have caused the fact that, out of the blue, my car just wouldn't move anymore. At this point, I'm completely lost and have no idea what I should do - should I take it back to his shop (which is BMW certified for repairs), or should I take it into the dealer? And what just happened to my car??? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Well let the shop have a chance to do something about it.
But if your car is still under warrenty then take back to BMW, but let the shop try to correct it because they still may have the insurance company cover it.

If its an auto tranny, the transmission will not function without the transmission fluid inside the torque converter (the fluid essentially transfers the power from the engine to the transmission). So chances are, if the source of the leak is due to a missing or faulty part that caused the leak, then they can just repair it. If its a crack, obvious a new tranny is need.
