Is Wastegate Covered by CPO?

My 07 335i CPO has the dreaded wastegate rattle. The first stealer I took it to said it would likely be an adjustment & if so is considered maintenance & would not be covered. Cost approx $2200. They did a $300 software update & it did nothing. I was at a different stealer for the recent "software update recall" & they said the update fixed the rattle & warranty will not cover the wastegate anyway. It did not fix it. I have thrown the low boost fail safe code 3 times in 4 months. Anyone have any knowledge of this issue & if there is a way I can get it covered? Other than being annoying does this issue affect my performance? Thanks all.

To my knowledge you should be covered under the CPO atleast thats what my SA told me. If you read throught the CPO warrenty then it should say your engine and transmission is coverd under the CPO coverage. And to my understanding i would thing that the wastegates are part of the engine? I would check with another dealership and see what they say.

Of course they are. You need new actuators or/and new set of turbos....most likely new turbos i would guess. There is a SIB for this.

When I call other service managers all I get is "bring it in". They won't askowledge the SB or whether it's covered or not

they always tell you to "bring it in", how else can they know for sure whats wrong....When you bring it in, bring SIB with you.

Also sometimes wastegates rattle is mistaken with exhaust valve rattle, so i would check that myself before wasting time with dealer. Disconnect valve and see if rattle is still there.

I understand bringing it in, but they can give a straight yes or no when asked IF the waste gate is defective is it covered. How do I disco the valve?

Time and time again, so many BMW dealerships are "scared" of BMWNA as if they're doctors working for a HMO. Doing the right thing and fixing a customers' problem costs the mfg. money, so they deny warranty claims. Not liking what I'm hearing about the CPO, because those of us who are the original owners with extended warranties are grouped as such. It's as if CPO = second class.... Why the F*** would anyone with a CPO shell out $2200 to fix a problem with um, the turbos? That's insulting and OP you should have said it right to the SA's face. I got in the face of one so close our noses were almost touching--F them if they think they can just say anything they want.

Search for golf tee mod in diy forum. There is a plug on the left side in your trunk which you need to disconnect. Valve has no real use, I keep mine disconnected due to rattle myself.

I do find that the exhaust flap does keep the wife happy on long highway cruises.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that rattle. This one sounds the same except it is toward the middle front of the car. I'm told it is the wastegate. I'm going to call the Service Manager at Irvine BMW & discuss it with him.
