Latest software causes turbo lag and poor mileage!

I wouldn't suggest updating it. I got the new software in about a week ago and the turbo lag is very noticeable. I called the BMW dealership who said that they can't do anything about it. I even showed them the SBI but apparently the vehicles that are built before Sept 2007 can be sent back to the old software... and mine is build on Oct 2007

The loss of performance is quite noticeable. Once it hits 3000 RPM, there's a lag for a couple of seconds and then accelerates faster. The mileage also is very poor (went from 14 to 19). BMW said to keep riding the car for a month and see if it fixes but I doubt it will. From what I read it may just be a wastegate issue which I am hoping it will be.

Give it time to adapt to your style of driving. Drive it like you normally would for a couple days, you should see it change.

I hadn't updated my software for a few years before getting the latest one last month, huge improvement for me after a few hundred km's. I noticed less lag and quicker upshifts. Have yet to notice any difference in gas mileage.

14 to 19 is quite poor though, if it doesn't get back to normal I'd have it looked at.

I'm not sure what version was installed but it was the latest one. I'm not sure how adapting to my driving style will improve the turbo lag. I'll drive more than often and give it a couple weeks I guess, if not, I'm going to complain a lot about this.

I have had 3 updates done to my car, car has always felt slow after it was done. Went back to normal after a couple WOT pulls over the course of a week.

lag??...these tiny turbos are the size of pea shooters....no lag IMO...try driving a single big turbo setup in another car and you will understand what lag means..when you dont hit full boost until 4500 or higher....thats what you call lag...lol..

the point is that there was virtually no lag before the software update, and now the car doesn't pull the same.

i had the exact same thing happen to me. problem was never fixed even though i went to the dealer many times after. it got to a point where i missed the instant acceleration so much that i just got rid of the damn thing and never looked back. best decision i've ever made lol.

Actually, most new vehicles all have adaptive driving and the new update probably erased the memory from the ecu.

The adaptive driving system will actually change fuel trim, spark timing and in some automatics, shift points.

However, the adaptive system does take a while to record all the data it requires. If you start driving more aggressively for a period of time (depending on model and car, weeks or months) it may start to feel more responsive.

Thats from my experience anyway.

Mine was updated (tranny too)when HPFP was done and car is EXACTLY like it was before. If there is a hesitation they will fix it.

Okay I got back from the dealership and there's nothing they can do. They have been getting many angry people about this but BMW won't do anything. This was my first car I bought a month ago and now they screw it up just to decrease the HPFP problem (actually it doesn't even decrease it from what I've seen). I don't even think complaining will work because most BMW drivers buy it for the name, not for the acceleration. Does anyone know if a Dinan software will fix the turbo lag? Shell out another few thousand just to have a nice ride.

This will probably be my last BMW.

Stage 1: +60hp and +78lb-ft
Stage 2: +78hp and +116lb-ft

This upgrade does change the HP curve and increases the area underneath it; therefore, it should also increase vehicle responsiveness.

We never installed a stage 1 software, only a stage 2 and that was a big difference. But stage 2 does cost $500 to $600 more than the stage 1 software.

I too am running Dinan Stage 2 and love it.
My stealership noted the HPFP software recall when I was in last month to fix a broken passenger side mirror. We both decided to wait until next visit as they dealer needs to upgrade the software and then re-flash the Dinan on top (free of charge), which requires and extra couple hours that wasn't booked.

SA said the Dinan re-flash should over-write the BMW software recall.

Let you break down on the side of the road. If there is a huge difference after the update/recall they are obliged to fix it. Have some faith.

Apparently it's just a wastegate thing and Parkview BMW won't fit it even if it says it on the SIB (my car is built on Oct 2007):

They claim that BMW NA says "no". I didn't buy a car that has the acceleration of a Honda.
