Parents thinking about a 535gt

Hey all. So my parents are looking into a new car. Like a good son, I recommended a BMW. My mom wanted something like an x5. Naturally, I suggested the 535gt. They absolutely loved it. The question is now getting a good deal. Anyone know when a CPO 535GT may become available?

why wait for a CPO?
look for a left over new 2010 535 GT at a nearby dealer. HUGE savings to be had. i recently was able to pick up my new 2010 550 GT for close to $15k off sticker. you could easily do the same.

That's an awesome deal. What did you get with your 550 GT? We checked out a 535 GT (Titanum Silver, Everest Gray interior with navi, ipod, sun shades, etc) but they were asking 63,000. You think we can talk them down to about 50?

If you're talking about a 2010 model, possibly... from what I've seen in the SF Bay Area there is support from BMWNA to discount last year's models substantially below dealer invoice. If you're looking at a 2011 model, though, you're probably looking at much closer to MSRP, and certainly above the dealer's invoice price.

The scarcity of GTs is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, some dealers seem to think it's a dud (or at best, a "niche car") and want to get rid of the GTs they have on hand. On the other hand, that makes it next to impossible to find a good match if you're at all particular about colors, specs, etc. I had to custom order mine since there was nothing close to my desired specs out there.

Most dealers want to clear their 2010 GT inventory. Making an offer of $2500 below invoice is beyond reasonable. Stick to that price.

So how did you get $15k off yours?

As stated, I made my offer of $2500 below invoice.
Use the auto websites like edmunds.com or cars.com to get an approximate idea of what invoice is for the vehicle you are interested in. Then just be upfront with the salesman - you don't want to waste each others time, and are making a serious offer of $2500 below invoice.
You know, and they know, that interested buyers for the GT are few and far between.
Also remember Monday is the last day for taking advantage of the special financing program BMW is offering.

In the Bay Area, dealers are marking down 2010 GTs upfront to clear them out. For instance, I see the following on a few of the local dealers' websites:

2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 535i: $63,375 (MSRP) $55,777 (Sale)
2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 535i: $66,925 (MSRP) $57,777 (sale)
2010 BMW 550i Gran Turismo $69,375 (MSPR) $61,375 (Sale)
2010 BMW 550i Gran Turismo $87,525 (MSRP) $79,525 (Sale)
2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 550i $82,025.00 (MSRP) $61,988.00 (Sale... also has 7k miles on it, so either a demo or the dealer's own car)

These discounts are possible because BMWNA offers incentives to the dealers to sell at or below their invoice price (the dealer's theoretical cost to purchase the car from BMWNA) on last year's models.

It should still be possible to knock them down a few grand below advertised sale prices. But if the GT you looked at started out at, say, $73k and has already been marked down to $63k, you're not going to get them down to $50k. If $63k is the MSRP, on the other hand, $50k would likely be attainable... but only if it's a 2010 model.

If your dealer hasn't marked down their GT, it's probably because a) it's a 2011 model (which get no incentives from BMWNA, since they're current model year) or b) the dealer is not that desperate to sell its GT and/or c) the dealer is still trying to get close to MSRP and wants to pocket the incentives rather than pass them on to you.
