Annoyed christmas eve shopper?

Went to the mall yesterday was packed...all the parking was taken up even the back which is usually only half crowded was full of cars. I was driving around for 15-20 min trying to find a endspot and found one.

It had the dash lined next to it like this (/////). I parked half on the dashed part when I came back and got ready to go this guy who had parked in the row behind me called me a douchebag for parking like that. . Did I park wrong if I parked like this?

You didn't block anyone else's access to a space, so while technically you did not park correctly I've seen more egregious parking offenses...there's always someone waiting for an opportunity to call out a stranger and feel good about themselves...everyone knows who the real douchebag is...

I don't get what you did wrong. So you were a little over the line, so what? It's not like you were blocking anything.

IMO it seems a bit overkilled. Judging by how big the parking spots are it is unnecessary to park your car like that.

not necessarily true... While the parking spots look pretty big people still do not know how to park or drive... They pull in and hit your car or they swing their giant van doors open and hit your door also... He was just being very cautious about his car... good shit OP...

Look at the spot. If he parked as close to the line towards the left there is no way a van door can even be close to hitting his car.

IMO, parking like this is just asking for trouble. With so much retarded people in this world people would key your car for parking like a asshole.

Honestly man, you parked like somebody who should have no business driving a classy car like that. Ya you aren't blocking anyone but come on... The car doesn't even look straight in the first photo.

Calling you a douche is taking it too far but how hard is it to park proper?

Lol wut? U mad?

First off the car is parked straight you can't really tell but look at the second picture.

Second of all I parked like that on purpose to avoid door dings. I am very OCD about my car and have two tiny dings on my driver door in 3 years of ownership. Its not straight but its not blocking anyone or anything. I have seen several "classy car owners" park "classy" cars crooked but I don't go and tell them that they have no business driving a classy car.

No, not mad bro, that's just a helluva parking job and your photos speak for themselves. Like I said calling you a douche is going too far but you're not helping your case. If you're OCD about door dings, don't drive that car to the mall on Christmas season of all days...

Its straight. The dashed line on the left slants so it looks like the parking is not straight but it is. I live in NY I know straight parking .

The car spends most of its days at a campus parking lot or a hospital parking lot (both very crowded) and not a single ding. So if you park proper with care you can drive the car everywhere without it getting dinged.

I park like that everyday at school. College students don't give a fuck about what you drive. I on the other hand, do.

You did park too far over the line. Though you may not be in danger of a door ding on the passenger side, people driving around the lot just might sideswipe your drivers side. Very unlikely, but the striped area is supposed to be for no parking. I will often park in an end spot and as close to the line as I can get my wheels. Though I have on occasion parked a little over the line (like where there is a curb the other side of the hashmarks), never like that.

Often when you park far to one side in the slot, whoever parks next to you will often ride the line on the opposite side or even cross it. Your parking style would doubly invite that.

I have occassionally driven round a parking lot to not find a spot I liked and just driven away. I wasn't going to endanger my car.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the parking job, but I don't get the OCD about door dings, etc. I have so many paint dings from tiny rocks on the freeway, I just gave up trying to even fix them. It came down to, either I drive my car, or just park it in the garage waxing every 2 weeks.

Meh. I get why you parked like that, but it probably won't do anything extra to help your car. As others have said, people will think you were being a d-bag and possibly key the car. On the other hand somebody pulling in next to you could still park way over the lines and hit you. I used to park in this one really wide endspot with my old car at this apartment complex I lived in at the time. I can't tell you the number of times people parked way over the line and close to me, but this was the most egregious one:
