Just placed my order!
Just came back from the dealer. They had both the 28i and 35i for test drives. Sorry, no pics.
Like a couple other reviews here, the ride is firm, yet very comfortable and smooth. I played with the suspension settings and even on Sport+ the ride is well damped. The demo had the 18" wheels so with 19's it'll be a touch firmer but compared to my M3 I think it'll still be more comfortable than the Comfort setting. The 8-speed transmission is smooth and shifts are pretty quick. Manual shifts with the paddles are quick both up and down. The cabin is pretty quiet. I wouldn't mind more exhaust note inside but I guess I'm used to my M3. I placed my order and will be picking up at the Performance Center probably in mid-February; a nice Valentine's and birthday present for my wife. I negotiated $700 off, not ideal but not bad considering it's a new model that hasn't even been "officially" released yet. xDrive35i Alpine White Black Nevada Leather Brushed Aluminum Trim Convenience Pkg Dynamic Handling Pkg Sport Activity Pkg Technology Pkg Premium Pkg 19" 309 alloys Heated front seats Heated steering wheel Smartphone Integration Premium Hi-fi MSRP: $54,690

Hi buckeyesi
I also placed an order today (at a suburban dealership) after driving a 35i. It will be the first auto trans. in the family in more than 20 years. Was surprised at how quickly it got through the first 3 or 4 gears under "normal" acceleration (shifting at around 2K rpm). Liked the fast manual shifts from the paddles. The demo we drove only had 18 miles on it but the dealer actually encouraged me to "floor it" I had it in "Sport" mode and the tach immediately went to 7000rpm. I only did it once since it obviously is not the way to break in a brand new motor. I do miss having a hand operated emergency brake. The little "Park" on-off button just doesn't seem right. Ours will be Vermilion Red, black interior, wood trim for a change (our last two cars had the brushed aluminum), sport activity pkg, dynamic handling pkg., heated seats, heated steering wheel. Decided to not go with the convenience pkg., but did order the power tailgate, rear view camera and park distance control. MSRP around 48K. Our dealer also quoted a mid-February delivery. Maybe our cars will share the same truck ride to Chicago. |

buckeyesi,
Sorry. Just re-read your post and noticed that you're going to pick up your car and drive back. So, our cars will not be sharing any truck rides. I thought about the factory pick-up and would love to have the tour, but just can;t get away for the trip. Hope you have a great time! |

Was it the light sienna wood or the darker wave wood?

Update: my car went into production with a completion date of 1/12! That was fast! We placed the order this past Monday. It sucks though, because it's going to sit at the performance center until at least Feb 4.

I'm jealous, as of this morning, "Track My BMW" still shows ours at the starting gate as "On Order". (also ordered last Monday).

I think it was 4-6 weeks after my order before I got a production date

LOL...I think I just got lucky. They probably modified one of their allocations. The thing is I'm planning on doing Performance Center Delivery and the earliest they have a slot open is February 1. So, my car will end up sitting for a few weeks before I can pick it up so the early production doesn't really do me any good, but it should be fun when I do pick it up!

Well he_ _! I too am planning on taking delivery there and wondered how long you have known the first available is February 1. Did your CA let you know about this or how did you find out? Just curious. At this rate I am going to be backed up TOO long!

My order is placed on 11/9. Was told will be in production on week 4 of Jan. 2011, but status changed to 150 (Production Started) since 12/22, will be complete on Jan. 11 per rep on the phone. So a bit ahead of schedule.

My CA contacted the Performance Center and they told him Feb 1 was the earliest they had available. Usually, the PC will contact you after your vehicle starts production with a firm date, which depends on when your car is scheduled for production. You can request a specific date but there's no guarantee they'll have a slot. I think you submit like first, second, and third choice dates for delivery and they'll try to accomodate. But, initial communication is done through your CA so I would ask him/her.
