Extended Warranty Worth It?
So I have a 2007 335i sedan that I purchased used earlier this year, and the warranty and maintenance are going to expire soon. I will only drive the car about 6-8k miles a year at the most. Given my driving habits, I don't see the point in spending $2000 for an extended maintenance plan, but does anyone think an extended warranty is worth it? I am reluctant to spend $2300 on a 2 year extension. I am curious what people's thoughts are. I know BMWs are expensive to fix... Also, if I were to do this, would the gold plan be sufficient as opposed to the platinum plan? I do not have a NAV system. Thanks!!!

For a 335, yes. I am not talking about HPFP; your turbos alone will be worth it if they break under warranty.

IMO, extended warranties are a waste of money.
I've owned two different BMWs for more than 6 years; a 2000 E46 323i Sedan (sold) and a 2004 E46 M3 Coupe (that I still own). Neither of these two cars had any major repair before the 6-year mark. My 323i Sedan really didn't start having maintenance problems until around 80,000 miles (control/trailing arm bushings, window regulators, water pump, climate control, blown speaker, etc.), nothing big or expensive, just a bunch of little stuff. My head gasket did fail at around 110,000 miles though. The biggest known problem on the 335i is the N54 engine’s HPFP, which is under extended warranty for 10 years/120,000 miles anyway.

At 6000 to 8000 miles per year your odds of the extended warranty paying off are not good. It is always about risk tolerance and with that few miles the risk is low. I bought my 06 330i with 49,000 miles from Carmax. I got an extended warranty for 2400 bucks that covers it till 109,000 miles and I drive about 26k per year. I am at 91k right now and have had 900 bucks of warranty repairs (rear wheel bearing and ABS sensor). I had never owned a BMW before so I was nervous about repair costs which can be high. But historically have always refused extended warranties because they rarely work out. You only hear the stories of the guys who "scored" big when they get a huge repair paid for under a warranty not the vast majority who get a few minor repairs.

While I personally would never buy an extended warranty and I agree with the other members about their opinion not to buy an extended warranty, HOWEVER, just do a search on this forum and you will see problems with the 335 that are in your year or newer.
08 335 3 coils replaced also other members same thread had their injectors replaced, Still same thread, low pressure fuel sensors (not pump) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=335i+turbo 09 335 resonator http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...stegate&page=8 07 335 multiple issues http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=335+wastegate So the question is, do you DIY? If not, do you feel lucky punk? (Clint Eastwood)
