Excellent Comparison Between BMW 325i vs. Audi A4 2.0T!!!! Both Cars Manual Trans.
I found this great video of a race between a stock 2007 BMW 325i and a Stock 2007 Audi A4 2.0T on an airport runway. It was a great race because it shows the strength of both cars. The Audi get the better jump but the bimmer catches up when the speed increases.
Here is the video: http://video.ultimatestreet.com/vide...ies-or-audi-a4 Let me know if it surprised you??? |

The 2.0T is a great engine and incredibly useable torque is its strongest point, particularly with an aftermarket ECU tune. Is the A4 in the video quattro-equipped? If so, that would likely explain its jump on the 325.

Maybe in a heavy AWD car like the A4, but not in the smaller and lighter cars like the GTI, GLI, Passat, Eos, A3, etc. In those cars, even with an aftermarket ECU tune, they're perfectly capable of meeting and exceeding the factory EPA ratings.

I had a MK5 GTI with apr tune and let me tell you that car was an absolute blast. The car is a bit dull when it's stock but once you get the tune it turns into something completely different. It has it's low points obviously, like torque steer, sweet mercy. Handling was well enough as I had mine dropped on vw euro suspension, but gunning it out of the turns was borderline suicide. It was a very fun car and I'll probably own another one at some point in my life......As far as the A4 is concerned, a really good friend of mine has the exact car portrayed in the video (B7) non-quattro. It's a heavy, high, no handling POS. I had to drive him to the airport one time and drove his car back home, never will I purchase an A4....I'll take a GTI over an A4 any day of the week.

I couldn't tell if the 3 was gaining or not, the camera angle made it hard to tell anything other than the A4 launched better, if it was an AWD that would explain it.
BTW - since when is the checkered flag the start flag? IMO A4 and 3 series are two great car options. |

If the selling point of the A4 is its tuning potential, I can see that, but we are talking about buying the car used not new. How is a 2007 A4 2.0T holding up in resale value compared to a 2007 325i? Or should it not be compared to a 2007 328i? What about a 330i? Which is a fair comparision?
I think if they wanted a 325i, should have compared it to an A4 non-turbo FWD. |

Hey, that's exactly like me (A4) vs my girlfriend (325). Until I went 335, that is. Now it wouldn't be fair, and she is bitter.

2.0t=325i 3.2= 330i then when BMW flushed the 325 down the toilet: 2.0t=328 3.2= i guess the 328 because the audi is probably still cheaper s4= 335i rs4=m3 |

I know when I test drove a 2010 A4 2.0 awd, it was coarse, more vibration and slower than a 328i I tested. |

I thought Audi ended the 3.2 A4 because it did not sell well once the 2.0T was out? If so this is not Audi's fault, but most idiots have no idea what is the difference between a 4 banger and a fine tuned 6, especially an I6.

That's correct, Audi nixed the V6 version of the A4 from the U.S. market not too long ago. It wasn't a good seller and was even less so once the uprated 2.0T (211hp, 258 lb-ft) came out. And your latter point speaks to why you see seemingly exponentially more x28 cars around compared to x35 cars; most buyers could care less about what's under the hood as long as it's more than adequate, which the 3.0l I6 and 2.0T are. |

In that sense the NA I6 in the 330i is a true state of art engine, not the one you find in a 335i. Unfortunately BMW no longer sells the high power NA I6, the one in the 328i is somewhat detuned, though better than the one in the 325i. Still many would say an NA I6 is a presentation of what the best engine one can build. Anyone can slap a turbo or super charger on an engine and call it a day, in our case BMW isn't even too good at it given the HPFP issue, but to make the best out of an NA engine takes real talent. You can of course argue all you want why a forced induction engine can be a true showing of talent, just don't go around tell those who like NA engines that they don't care what is under the hood.
