Streaming Bluetooth Audio For Those Without the Combox Option

Or for Droid owners with the Combox option.

I was kind of bummed that my Droid won't stay paired with the Combox. I was all excited because when I first paired it, it worked fine. However once you turn off the ignition you have to reinstall and re-pair the Droid. Time consuming and quite a hassle. Its a compatibility issue, not a defect with the car, as my brother's iPhone worked flawlessly in my car.

So, I came across the Scosche Streaming Audio Bluetooth receiver and im quite impressed with its ease of operation. It comes with a USB recharging cable to provide a 5hr run time and over 100hrs of standby. It really brings a new level of comfort/convenience to my 2008 335i. Sometimes it is nice to just get in the car and put your phone on the dash to listen to the Channel 5 New, etc, (Slingbox FTW) without having to run a cable from your center console to your dash!

My brothers Iphone worked fine. My Droid X actually paired one time automatically yesterday...but that was it. I was really looking forward to this feature...so kind of disappointed.

Bluetooth audio works great with the new Windows Phone 7. I paried the phone, selected it in the iDrive, started streaming music on the phone, flawless. When I shut off the car, get out, do whatever, get back in, start the car, the phone starts streaming audio right where it left off. Change to radio, change back to phone, phone starts streaming right where it left off. Flawless. I haven't tried my iPhone and I don't want to ever own a Driod but the Win7 phone works great. I loaded a bunch of content onto the car's hard drive but have yet to use it as the bluetooth audio works so easily and my phone has about 30GB of Zune content on it.

I am not sure why the Droid would just pair once and then not work on any subsequent tries. Its kind of like a terrible tease. You can see how it works, but have to jump through hoops to make it work the next time you get in the car. Whenever I get in the car, the Droid will beep and say do you want to allow file sharing and phone book access. But no matter if I pick "always allow" etc, it still won't connect Bluetooth streaming audio. The phone function works as always though.

Unless there is some workable software solution, I am perfectly fine using the Scosche Bluetooth Module. I almost feel like getting a 2nd one to have wireless interface with my desk computer speakers. Its is really nice to have extra volume for your phone sometimes in the office without having to plug anything in.

How is the quality of the Scosche Streaming Audio Bluetooth receiver?
Have you had any signal issues?

I recently purchased the Blackberry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway. All I can say is that it is not as great of a product as the reviews claimed it to be. I have a lot of signal issues with that device. It sounds as if I was running an old school CD player and it would skip when there is movement. Needless to say, I am still searching for something since I dont have a combox.

I have only been watching TV on my Droid, and it sounds okay. The slingbox itself causes distortion at times. When I ran youtube, it sounded pretty darn good though. I will pair my Blackberry Storm tonight which has a ton of MP3 music files and let you know how it sounds.
