iPod adapter question

Hello, I've recently ordered a 328i and once it's delivered, I will have the dealer install the OEM iPod adapter. I see the default location for the dock cable is the glovebox, but I'd personally rather have it in the armrest.

Does anyone with experience installing the kit themselves know if the cable is long enough to reach into the armrest? I assume the distance is similar, but I'd like to make sure before the dealer tells me they can't do it that way.

Thanks!
Jonathan

I'm sure the dealer is correct. The cable is probably made to extend only to the glove box with minimal slack. Putting it in the armrest would require running through the entire console and then feeding it through the plastic housing.

But look at it this way, once you have the control for the iPod you don't really need it within easy reach... as that is the point.

The dealer hasn't told me it's not possible -- I was just presuming they would because it's not in the instructions

How much slack is there on the cable when it's routed to the glove compartment?

I agree I would be happy if you could place the end of the adaptor in the ashtray/sunglass holder.

I recently took delivery of a 335i Coupe with the iPod integration. My cable is in the glove box, and I think that's the best place for it. The center console armrest is a little small and difficult to access while driving. Once the iPod is connected, there is NO REASON to get to it. Everything is controlled from the head unit, whether with or without navigation. Mu Pod sits quietly in the glove box and charges when the car is running. I have not taken it out all week. There will be an Aux port in the center armrest if you choose to use that, but you will have less control and no charging ability.

I understand what the iPod integration kit entails (I had the Dension iceLink>Plus on my Z4, which is essentially the same thing), but I still think the armrest is easier to get to, driving or not, for taking my iPod with me after I get out of the car.

Since you have the adapter, how much slack is there on the cable when routed to the glovebox? Do I have to reach into the glovebox and unplug it there, or can I pull the iPod out somewhat first?

I guess it depends on how the installer routes the cable, but on mine there is enough cable to take the connected iPod out of the glove box to comfortably work with the connection....(estimate about a foot of extra cable).

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to ask the dealer if it's possible to route the cable into the armrest. I'll post back here if they do it.

Slack, beyond the foot or so that's in the glovebox, I don't recall seeing that much. I was trying to find a photo of the components before installation but could not locate it. Definitely not nearly enough to run towards the center console front (i.e. near the switches), not even to mention the center console armrest.
