X3M

Scott,s post said there is a possibility of an X3M, I would expect BMW could get this model into production with minimal engineering very quickly if the demand was there.

'M' is standing more for marketing than motorsport these days. BMW has completely lost it's way imo. There is no way a bloated SUV should be a motorsport car. M cars should be the preserve of the cars that BMW race.

BMW really needs to let M division focus on building far lighter cars with better natural steering and quicker racks. For the steering they should ask Lotus how it's done.

Rant over.

I am sure that they will make it. Goes right inline with the X5M and X6M. If you can build it, sell it at a premium, and make money, why wouldn't you?

The M label was distorted a long time ago and is now more like AMG. They could always do a Black M series, like the Black AMG cars for hardcore enthusiasts.

Maybe and Orange M series, that would be better.

Generally agree but I was at an autocross where a pro driver turned nearly the same time on the course in a X6M as he did in a M3. I have driven a X5M on a road course and was impressed.

I go to school at Pepperdine in Malibu. Not a month goes by that I don't see some type of BMW test mule on PCH. Tonight I saw something very intriguing. A caravan of 3 BMW mules. 2 cars and one SUV.

After closer inspection I could tell that the larger car was the new M5, quad exhaust, wide track...typical M

The other two surprised me because I had not heard anything about them.

The other car was a Z4, but it too had quad exhaust and had the full black cladding covering the body work it also looked to have a lower front airdam.

Finally the SUV was an X3, however all the body work was covered up like on the Z4 but I could tell that the front end looked different. X3M?

There were wires hanging everywhere in the cockpits so probably early mules. But I would wager $100 I saw an X3M and Z4M

Did you note the exhaust on the X3? Quad? Split dual?

It was hard to tell, it was dark and there was a lot of cladding around the rear body panels so I can't say for sure

I have yet to see a new X3 in person yet, but it did look to have some really wide tires on it so it could be a possibility. The front end looked more aerodynamic

For practical reasons, I just traded by M3 for a 2010 X3. Obviously, there are some aspects of the M3 that I miss. If they made an X3M, I would get one right away.

Never mind those who say that the M division shouldn't do SUV's. Most M owners don't track their cars anyway. And I was very impressed by the X6M that I test-drove last year. But an X6M is way too expensive for me. An X3M would be perfect.

you are spot on with that, 95% of M buyers do not track their cars! and even if they do the X5M and X6M are respected on the track because they put up great numbers. Just because I have 2 little kids, why can't I have fun too?

My only problem is that if they made an X3M it would probably be like the 1M and really just be equal to a Z4/335 is with the engine and not a full blown M engine. I am not going to spend $5K more for 30 more HP that a $1000 cpu overhaul can do.

Now if they made it a proper M Engine with 400+ HP, I would pay M3 prices for the X3M, $70K for a fully loaded X3M with 400+ HP, sure! I can take the kids to Grandmas in it, then onto the track, LOL

Just because hardcore forum people don't like the idea, doesn't mean BMW shouldn't do it, if its profitable, bring it on (just like AMG does)

Given a "reasonable" (e.g. so that I shouldn't just buy an X5M or maybe X6M) price for a real X3M I'd have had a really, really hard time not finding some way to rationalize why I needed to buy one. While I'd love an M3, a sedan just wouldn't do what I needed right now and an M3 plus some kind of separate utility vehicle wouldn't work out well. I did similar before with a 330 and a 4Runner. While the 4Runner was good for what I needed it for, it offered none of what makes me smile about BMWs. An X3M would have hit the sweet spot! Shoot, now I sorta hope they don't make one soon or I'll have to rationalize trading up!!!
