2007 BMW 323i overheating?

hey,

I have an e90 and looks like it's overheating for some reason no idea why.

I get the icon on the dashboard that looks like a temperature gauge with wiggly waves on the bottom. When it first pops up it's orange/yellowish color and than after it goes red and when the icon goes red than I am unable to step on the gas pedal and im guessing that is because my car doesn't want to really overheat and blow up. When I look on the ground and I see liquid leaking so that is for sure..

Can someone please help me on this as I am so dumb when it comes to mechanical stuff?

Thanks,
Ricky

Sounds like you have scraped your radiator bleeding plugs, happened to another member on e90post. Did you smack a curb or park up on to a curb?

nope not at all. Everything was just perfect until yesterday evening. It was soo random.

The funny thing is - I got my oil changed by BMW dealership about 2 weeks ago and I asked the person on the phone if they checked my fluids and he said yes. They topped off all my fluids including anti freeze. I don't know why it's overheating or what is causing it to overheat.

If you have enough coolant, I'd suspect then a bad waterpump.

So it sounds like you have a coolant leak, you may not have a one 2 weeks ago as you stated it just started. You are overheating because of your lack of coolant. You will have to get the cooling system pressure tested and the leak repaired.

The same thing happened to me and it was the waterpump although I had no fluids leaking. Definitely get under the car and look for leaks and check your rad fluid level first since the waterpump is serious $$$$$. Best deal is town is Maranello and ask for Mike and Maxbimmer pricing.Might as well have the thermostat changed at the same time. Good luck and keep us posted.

hey guys, alright so I took my BMW to autobahn auto service who are german specialists in my neighbhourhood which is Hamilton, ON.

They quoted me $1,090 total after tax with 1 year warranty, the parts that were replaced were the water pump and thermostat.

in my own opinion - way tooo expensive but had to pay it off..

the water pump for you vehicle is around 500 dollars. the warrant will expire before it becomes of use seeing how they generally last quite awhile, so useless factor in cost. thermostat is around 100, so you paid about 500 for labor. more than it should have taken. While it is a pain in the ass to get to, i dont see it taking 10+ hours worth of labor that they charged you for.

Yea the water pump is expensive and the electric thermostat is way more than 100, but BMW gives two years warranty on the parts, so keep that in mind for the future. Yes this is expen$ive but you got a decent deal since the parts retail for about 1100 alone.
