Mechatronics sealing sleeve?

So my 325i is leaking transmission fluid and everything seems to be pointing to the same signs as in thread (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240526).

My question to you guys is how hard would it be to replace the mechatronics sealing sleave? Are there any techs/savy enough members/ or any one with TIS repair guide out there that has DIY for this procedure? The part alone is only like $25. The pan gasket I can do with out a problem, but how would I access the sealing sleeve?

CTSC suggested replacing this when I replace the entire pan. Any reason to do this if the transmission is not leaking? It's a $15 part and they said it should take an extra 20 minutes because it is "a bit tight" up there.

I don't even know what this part does. Thoughts?

why they would use a plastic pan on an VERY expensive tranny is BEYOND me..... my damn firebird has a metal pan! Seriously considering DIY, this is basic stuff

But I look at the plastic used for these items as being a great way to reduce waste on a non-stressed component.

non stressed??? they replace these at 100K and sometimes sooner because they can warp in high heat conditions, or just warp just because theyre plastic and do that.....

how much waste do you really have from a 12X18 metal pan.....

Buy it from http://thectsc.com/ for less than $20 and do it yourself. They told me it shouldn't be more than an hour job.

I want to but i dont have a garage nor a lift, my driveway is a slight incline. On top of that I cant figure out what to do with the tranny pan, some say replace, others say just get a new gasket (or clean the old)

Additionally i dont have the proper tools like a pump etc to fill the tranny back up with fluid in a CLEAN fashion

will dealer cover the mechatronic sleeve since theres a TSB on it if the car is out of warranty? If not I plan on replacing it myself, does this require draining the fluid?

Yes you have to drain the fluid.

search threads ive posted in.. theres one weve gone over DIY several times. ZF diy showing pix, a written one. the main reason i chose not to is because you need to pump the old tranny fluid back in through a drain plug higher up on the tranny. Without a lift, and in the driverway this to me is more trouble than its worth

and btw thats a no. Service bulletin unfortunately does not mean recall replacement

Use a pump to get the oil back in. They are like $10 from Autozone. You can use it on the rear diff as well.

I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/RoadPro-RP3666...0845364&sr=1-4

Cool Thanks, I found few pdf diy. I will probly tackle it this weekend. I read somewhere that the quick first to second shift and jerkiness here and there could be from low tranny oil, will the car throw a warning light when the tranny oil gets too low?

I havent found a clear answer to that. Make SURE you replace the drain plug bolt, and they recommend replacing the pan gasket. If i had a garage i would have done this in a heartbeat. Just set me back 780 after tax
