Cheap 325i/328i exhaust tip uprgade!

The stock exhaust tips on the e90 and e92 looks pretty crappy without the nice chrome trim found on the 335i. I was pretty set on buying the OEM BMW tips from the dealer for around 65$ (both) until I went to Pep Boys to get some car care stuff and I stumbled upon a generic ( but pretty good quality ) chrome exhaust tip that looked like it was meant for the 328i. The only thing was that it was about 1.5-2 inches too long. They were 8$ each and I took them to a exhaust shop that cut them and put them on for 20$. They dont fit super tight like the OEM ones, so the shop put a tiny weld at the end of each pipe to keep them on real nice. They look amazing and completely oem for HALF the price. Im sure if anyone is handy with power tools and welding, they can do this mod for a total of 16$ ( save the labor costs ). My car looks sooo much nicer and it feels great to have gotten such a good deal. I highly recommend it!

I will post pics soon.

I give you for the thought you put into this. Consider these things though:
-Cheap chrome tips are cheap chrome tips. My past experience with cheap chrome tips have them pitting and peeling in short order.
-If you are having the tips cut, you are exposing bare metal to the elements which wil lead to rust and cause staining on your driveway.
-The OEM tips are a matte chrome finish, not bright.
-How much is your time and energy worth to go find an exhaust shop that will accommodate you?
-While the cheap tips may be OK for the E90, the E92 tips are angled slightly, like this:

IMHO, I'll go with the OEM tips, spend the extra $30 and enjoy these:

As long as you're happy with it that's good. But I'm with the others once I do this, I'll just buy OEM

I also agree that it's better to go with the OEM solution. Speaking of which, when the new sedan comes, I'd rather go with the 335 tips than the BMW add-on tips. I've searched for the DIY on this (and know it's fairly simple), but does anyone have a link to that thread? I know you have to buy two of the same side...

You lost me on the idea when you said "they had to spot weld!!!!! what about rust gathering in those spots. This is why I mainly stick to BMW product (OEM) just for this reason they make quality Stuff!!!! for BMW cars. I maybe over reacting, so I will wait for the PICs
