is my tranny gone!??

i have a e90 328i. MT. I just started noticing this month when i drive that there is this howling-like, gritty, raspy sound coming from my car. i hear it most on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, in between 2000-3000 rpm. i know it's not the engine cuz i rev it and it's very clean... i'm starting to hear it on 5th gear now also!
Transmission!?!? what should i do?

I think it is the drive belt and not the trans.

Check the diff. Mine did it too. Diff is around $2000 installed.
