Oil & Filter's Locally?
Hey guys,
Where can I get a good price on OEM engine oil and filters (other than the dealerships unless they're cheap) for my '11 e92 335xi?? Thanks

Maranello BMW - Mike (Parts dept). He gives big discount (based on the Maxbimmer forum)

Maranello BMW. Best deal I know on oil, filter and many other parts. Talk to Mike and ask for the Maxbimmer pricing.

Maybe a stupid question, but do you know you get 1 free oil & filter change per year, regardless of mileage?

And depending on your mileage, you may get another one for free very shortly after that if you hit the mileage target.

Peepers, I joined Maxbimmer first just to avoid the hassle. Less than $7 for a quart of oil and $12 for a filter. I have the same car as you.
I recently did my own oil change as I'm not comfortable with just having the dealer do it once a year. Peepers, do you have iDrive? Since you have the same car as me I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing me a favour and tell me what service required date is showing for your engine oil? My date says May 2012 and 21,000 km. I could have sworn that it read May 2011 before I did the oil change but from what little I can find on the internet, it appears that it should read 2 years from the in-service date because the 2 year deadline refers to the Oil Service deadline, not the annual oil change. Everything I read before doing the oil change indicated that doing the oil change yourself would not alter the date or mileage countdown as that has to be changed by the dealer. If you wouldn't mind taking a look at your iDrive or look at the display in your instrument cluster (if you don't have iDrive), I would really appreciate it. AutoPilot, I too got my oil and filters from Mike at Maranello - same prices
I do have iDrive and I just did the first oil change at 13,000kms. I just checked out my service requirements and it too now reads May 2012 / 13,000kms. I too could have sworn it used to state May 2011? Not sure how the next service date could be pushed out a full year from doing a simple oil change? - not touching any date/mileage countdown that the dealer would normally adjust after a service? Draining the oil was as simple as removing on oil pan drain bolt (no electronics that would send a signal to the computer there). Perhaps changing out the oil filter had some electronic interface (but I doubt that??)

I did my first oil change and the mileage countdown didn't change at all, which is what I expected.
The 2011 vs. 2012 thing has me wondering. At first I was sure it read 2011 before the oil change. But after finding a few posts mentioning that the date is 2 years out from the car's in service date because it refers to the "Oil Service" expiry date, I'm not so sure anymore. |

I guess the only way to confirm if it orignially stated 2011 or 2012 is to go into the dealership and check out a new model in the showroom? I can't see it stating 2years out though? 24,000-26,000 (on average) is an annual amount of kms, not 2 years worth??

I want to PM someone named Braiski on these forums but I'm still a newb so I can't just yet. He drives the same car and he hasn't owned it for long so I have a feeling he hasn't done his own first oil change yet. I'm going to ask him if he could take a look.

By the way, the reason why I might think it is two years out is because the date is for the oil service, not the oil change. I've googled bmw oil service vs oil change and have found some references.

I was thinking the same thing? Perhapms the kms countdown is for the oil change and the month/year is for the expected first service requirement? I'll PM Braiski and ask him to comment on this thread

Actually, I can PM now, guess I didn't need to wait a full 24 hours. I PMed him earlier today asking him to look, but if he would post his findings here that would be better.

Peepers, you'll find this information helpful.
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...=1#post8645433 Still wouldn't mind hearing from Braiski to get double confirmation. |
