Hankook EVO Ventus V12

So I just changed my summer V12s for my winters and was shocked, completely totally shocked, to see how worn out they were.

I have a 235/35/19 F and 265/30/19 R set up and I got the tires brand spanking new in May. The E90 is my wife's car, so I don't drive it all that often because I prefer zipping around in my E46. We put maybe 6K miles on them and the rear tires are almost done!!!

Fronts are fine and have plenty of tread left, but I can't believe the rears... the speed at which they wore down is astounding.

It begs the question as to whether we did something wrong? or has anyone else experienced this as well?

I'm a bit disappointed to say the least because I actually like those tires performance-wise.

I was just kidding. When we sell the car, it will be "lady driven".

I just did one 2 weeks ago. The car was out of alignment, but I never thought that it would've made the tires wear down so fast.

How often did you check pressures? Too low pressures can kill a tire pretty quick. I have a 4000lb E93 335i and managed to get 15K miles out of the rears.

~199K miles. I -still- don't fear my 335i.

Im disappointed in my hancraps personally, not enough dry traction.

Ive put about 8000 abusive miles on my rear tires, including many brake stands and burnouts, and races where traction was limited 1st and 2nd gear.

Tires are still adequate on tread life, maybe over 50% left.

Sounds to me like they were under inflated.

Out of spec toe and camber can dramatically kill your low tread wear tires within a couple of weeks span. This was probably the reason why your V12's were worn so quickly.

Yeah, now that you mention it I'm pretty sure that was it. Both numbers were way out of whack. At least my fronts have plenty of tread left. I keep my tires at 32 psi in front and 35 psi in the back. Thanks for the feedback. Next time I definitely won't wait so long to get the alignment fixed... I kinda just ignored the problem for too long.

Typically, a rear wheel drive car will go through rear tires much faster than fronts. You will most likely go through 2 sets of rears before even changing one set of fronts. That being said, a proper alignment will help the cause, but don't expect to get double the life out of the tires.

What can help is getting non-directional tires and swapping the rears midway through the summer.
