Talking Route Planning

If you want a laugh try this route finder: DirectGovRouteFinder

It'll find you the public transport alternatives as well as normal routing. The public transport is hillarious.

According to this public transport would add an hour to my 45min commute.

Just for a laugh I put in the details for the UK3 meet. Assuming a meet at 12:00 and setting off for home at 20:30 it would take 4.5 hours to get there and 11.5 hours to get home (2 hours by car). To get back to Gloucester the best route is via Heathrow!

No wonder everyone drives instead!

Thanks for this Matt.

Rather than drive my E90 to UK3, I might take the public transport option which takes 5 hours and 24 minutes from London to East Midlands Airport!

Its easy - get the train from my local station to London Victoria. Jump on a coach with M-Sport suspension and blacklines to Coventry. Take in the sights, then jump on a coach to East Midlands Airport. So much easier than driving!!! Why didn't I do this for UK1 and UK2?

To arrive at Midlands Airport, the worst case is leaving home at 2211 on 16th March to arrive at 0608, a good six hours early. This includes going to Newcastle-upon-Tyne; 12 hours 55 minutes.

By car it takes 2 hours and 8 minutes going and 2 hours and 6 minutes returning, presumably because it's half a mile shorter.

Because you'd turn up at the meet, and be greeted by a chorus of "Haven't you forgotten something???"

I would have looked at the MF arrive, give him the traffic warden-Rottweiler look & then give him a ticket for 'absolute ridiculousness'!

Don't say you wouldn't deserve it, Paul!
