Fob follies

I was told my car would die unexpectedly on the expressway, because I never put my CA fob in the dash. It had two batteries, one of which discharged, causing the car to die. That's a load of c*** now isn't it, comfort access fobs have a 2032 battery inside.

But looks like BMW treats 7 series owners likewise, true or not...

Once you have started your car, it won't die simply because the fob ran out of battery. You can try this by starting the car, keep the fob away and driving well outside the range. The car won't start the next time without the fob/battery in it, but it shouldn't die on its own simply because it lost contact with the fob.

Once the car is started, it will not shut off unless the start/stop button is pressed. If the battery fails, the car will not start the next time, just as wingman said.

Who told you the car would die on the expressway??

Even when the 2032 battery goes, you can still start the car by inserting the fob in the ignition slot. You simply lose the CA abilities until the battery is replaced.

That's all that will happen, no worries.

That link was crazy though. I guess a 7 doesn't go into sleep mode if the key is not far enough away. I know if I leave my key in my Porsche's ignition, the same thing will happen and the battery will eventually die, but to have to keep it away from the car is a different story.
