Stoptech slotted rotors and brake pads. ARE THEY BETTER THAN OEM?

Hi guys i took my car to the dealership and they told me I have to replace my rear brakes. I live here in Vancouver Canada. They quoted me $575 tax included. That includes the rotors, brake pads, brake sensor and labor.

If I'm gonna spend that much money, I was thinking of just buying STOPTECH slotted rotors and brake pads instead. Front and rear.

Is the STOPTECH brake kit better than the OEM??? I know the slotted rotors looks better! I just don't know about the performance though.

I have stoptech rotors and pads. They feel very OEM-ish, but look better and cost less.

Not sure about performance but they are going to be more aesthetically pleasing. I personally would like to replace mine with Brembo rotors.

No it didn't.

What it did do is change the brake feel. It didn't change any actual braking though.

I took my 325 to the track with stock brakes and with stoptech slotted rotors and pads. There was a noticeable reduction in fade. As far as stopping power, the stock brakes are fine and they will endure several full brake applications. The stoptech ones will handle a lot more. So basically your stopping distance won't really change, it will just be more repeatable.

Very true, i supposed i should rephrase that. However a firmer pedal is always nicer espeically during repeated hard stops.

The Stage Kits from StopTech are definitely of great value especially for those of you who are now coming out of warranty and don't want to pay the ridiculous prices from the stealership. The **********s StopTech Stage 2 Brake Kit for your E90 or E92 includes StopTech Street Performance Brake Pads for the front, Centric Posi-quiet Pads for the rear, front and rear StopTech Slotted Rotors, front and rear Stainless Steel Brake Lines, and 3 bottles of Motul RBF Brake Fluid. The **********s StopTech Stage 2 Brake Kit is a great option for anyone looking to improve their E90 or E92's braking without upgrading to a big brake kit system!!

^ Is this kit still available? And does it use different pads in the front and rear?

Thanks.

You can also try the kit at bimmian.com. It's made by HP and they have front+rear with slotted/drilled rotors, ceramic pads, SS lines and high heat fluid for about $980.
A little bit more, but in my opinion they are a true performance set.

What about noise with the slotted rotors?
I put a set of slotted rotors (can't remember the brand) and they sort of howl/vibrate on higher speed, higher effort braking.

And how is the initial bite of those pads? I miss the almost grabby feel of the OEM brakes.
Thanks.

What you have to CHECK for with any of these rotors lately is to see if they are made in CHINA! I did extensive research into this issue when I had to replace all 4 rotors on my 2008 e90 and pads as well. Raybestos USED to make their rotors in the USA, but recently they moved them over to China. I ended up buying OEM rotors and cool carbon brake pads. If you are not going to be doing track stuff with the car, that is really one of the best options. Rotors are made in Polland I believe, but the finished rotors go BACK to BMW in Germany and each one is mill balanced to German specs. You can actually see the grooves in each rotor to see where the balanced material is taken out. Yes, the slotted rotors do look cooler and yes they will probably provide better cooling to the metal, but they tend to chew up brake pads at a higher rate from the research I did. The cool carbon pads are a PAIN in the ass for break in, as you have to take the car up to 70 mph, then brake to 10, then back up to 70 for 7-10 slow downs without stopping. Then you have to take the car home, let the pads cool down and then do the whole procedure again. But, I will say the Cool Carbons have EXCELLENT braking power AND MUCH MUCH MUCH less dust than OEM BMW pads. Make sure to purchase the 4 screws that hold on the rotors to the axle (they are one time use bolts), also make sure you purchase the plastic holder which attaches the front wheel sensor (these tend to dry out and break). I also recommend doing a little research on how to dissemble the rotors as BMW has a different setup than any other car I have ever worked on. You have to unscrew two hex screws after the primary rotor bolts are loosened. You will also need a RUBBER mallet to break the rotors loose off of the axle, especially the rear ones as the emergency brake pads tend to stick. Also invest in at least TWO cans of brake cleaner so you can properly remove all brake dust from both the calipers and inside the rear rotors where the emergency pads engage. I did all 4 wheels with OEM stuff and cool carbon pads for 679.00 shipped. Make sure to invest in some non squeak brake spray or paste as well, there are several places that you need to put the anti squeak paste on in order to properly seat the pads. Pick up an OEM manual on ebay for 10-20 on disc. Alot of them will now install a program called VMWARE which will allow you to run the BMW electronic manual in a natural windows xp environment within you windows 7 operating system.

China metal is just inferior to either made in the USA or German steel...

Just paid $487.90 for StopTech Drilled and Slotted Rotors with Akebono Euro Ceramic Fronts and Centric rear pads... deal or what?

Part numbers: 127.34093 for the fronts, and 127.34080 for the rears

Got them off www.carpartkings.com with a Military discount... I called them and did it over the phone... they have great customer service.. Plus the dude I talked to has a 2008 335i in Montego Blue, so that was even more helpful. I read him the part numbers I needed and he was like... "Wait.... do you have a BMW? I feel like I just ordered these for myself..."

hi, yes they do. The slotted rotors sort of HUM or howl when driven really really hard and hot.

I would have gotten drilled if I knew this.

No one paid attention to my earlier post lol...

I picked up rear HP ceramic pads, rear HP slotted/drilled rotors, SS lines front and back & higher rated brake fluid all for $550 here in Ontario from Bimmian.com.

Now, to be fair I did buy some other stuff which allowed him to give me a bit of the discount, however you guys can get comparable prices there in the U.S.

This will still run you way cheaper than the stop tech and I would say its better quality stuff too. HP is a known performance manufacturer and many of you use their pads - so why not the rest of the kit too?

I should be getting them next week (waiting on shipping) and will install shortly after. I'll do a write up of driving impressions and dust review.

Definetly check it out.

I have only the rotors, not the pads.

I have nothing in particular to say about the rotors, which is a good thing. They look good, they age well, slowly and without drama, can't tell anything different from oem.
