Can anyone beat a complete breakdown at 600 miles?
2011 335xi - CEL comes on today at around 40 mph, car jerks/stutters - I slow down an then it stalls, right in the left lane during rush hour. Completely impossible to restart it, would not turn over. Any thoughts? During the past week or so I've noticed it taking (very) slightly longer to turnover than it did originally - but WTF, it's got 600 miles.
edit - this turned out not to be HPFP related, the car ran out of gas, although the gauge read 1/8 full. Last edited by mimmitt; 10-28-2010 at 02:15 PM.. |

Never seen anything under 1k...post results...could be another N55 fuel pump, if it is, any hopes of it being at least a little more reliable than in the N54 seem crushed...

Let me tell you - not only is it real but it's pretty damn scary when you have your 2 young kids in the car. This was not "limp mode" - this was like shutting the car off at 40 mph...

If it's the HPFP, take it back and tell the dealer no thanks, you can have it back. It's appalling that BMW can't get past this issue in their $50K-60K cars. Assuming that's the issue, nevermind you had a complete failure at 600 miles. I can't tell you how pissed I would be personally.
Buy the new Mustang 2011 GT and you'll get M3 performance at a better price and Ford is #1 in customer satisfaction according to the report I just read. Hey, I'm just saying.

Gasoline. A refined petroleum product often found in vehicles, especially in the US.
It is unlikely that even 87 octane would kill an engine that quickly, especially if the OP was just cruising or lightly accelerating. Likewise, it would have to be very contaminated gas to get past the fuel filters and choke up/damage the engine within 600 miles. Anything is possible, I suppose, but given the mileage, it seems much less believable. |

Sorry to hear about these situations. What's sad is they're not fake like the runaway Prius. My car was just fine for 34 mos. until the same thing happened as the OP. As luck would have it, when it gets to the dealership, no SES = no dice = no service = car performing as designed. Took 6 mos. of this repeating until they opened up a PUMA case and fixed it.
People slammed BP for corporate irresponsibility, but it's ok with BMW because we love their cars. Even if each 335 needs 10k worth of work to fix it, so be it. It's unethical to only fix cars when customers get livid and in the faces of the sc***** SA's. |

Hmmm...I saw one (F10 535) a month or so ago on a flatbed, and obviously the first thought I had was HPFP. It could've simply been a dealer transfer, but who knows

Ironically enough, right after he told me that, he then tossed me the keys to an F10 535i while my POS is in the shop for whatever is wrong with the fueling system now. |

My key fob needed new batteries every two weeks, and the car would not lock/unlock with the fob in my pocket. The a**ho** SA didn't think there was anything wrong, so at the end of the day I got my car back and it was never even worked on, just performing as designed. It died on the way home. he said just bring it back next time, I need to start charging the CA fob in the dash because it has two batteries. What an a**ho**. This was earlier in the year. All of a sudden when the PUMA case is open, this is important info that was never documented. does someone with 600 miles on a brand-new car really want to go through all of this c***?
