Octaine + 15% ethanol ?

I'm not happy hearing about 15 % ethanol in my tank next year.
A number of car company's have voiced their objections.
Makes me rethink keeping the BMW longer than 5 years.
Anyone else see this as an issue with their turbo's?

I would only run 15% ethanol if this is officially approved by BMW. I doubt the fuel here in Europe will be 15% ethanol for a long time, since this is the home-market for them. There are also other stuff in fuel, which may be more dangerous such as a high degree of sulfur contaminations. These are said to be higher in the US already now, but I have no fact to back this up. Do some Googling on this if you want to read more.

an unnamed source at BMWNA has told us that the maximum allowed for use in a BMW is 10% (E10 the current blend), and that is that. After internal testing, BMW is not condoning the use of E15 at this time on any new or old BMW....

The EPA is said to rule on older cars by December at which time we will have more info on the availability of the fuel, how it will be dispensed and what happens if you accidently put the wrong blend in your BMW.

Wat? I promise, if General Electric for example did not like the new regulation, they could afford to get it killed in Congress, but I doubt that BMW has that much influence. So what would BMW do? I'm pretty sure they won't void warranties on every car in America.

Not so much the turbo but the HPFP. I still believe the high number of failures of the HPFP in NA compared to Europe is due to our current 10% Ethanol. Increase it to 15% and you will see even more failures. Ethanol tends to deteriorate gaskets and seals.

E15 will NOT replace E10. However, E15 will be an option at some stations.

Every seal that the fuel (E15) will be in touch with will be at risque.
As long as it is ONLY a option. that 15% E will NOT see my car.
