1200 miles left of the front pads after changing the brake fluid (25.000mls before !)

Hi, A strange thing happened: my computer showed about 25.000 miles until the next front brake pads change. Yesterday after they performed a vehicle check and replaced the brake fluid, I now have a "service due" icon and 1200 miles left until front brake pads replacement. The mechanic said the front pads have 6mm left and I should change them at 3mm. My car has 29000 miles and I have never changed the front brake pads but I did have to change the rears about 3 months ago. So which measurement seems correct from your experience ? The "before" brake work or the "after" one ? Maybe there was something wrong with the brake pad sensor (stuck ?) before servicing ?
