335xi lowered on Eibach , one corner is lower any ideas why
Hi
I have a 335xi Coupe recently dropped on Eibach Pro-Kit springs and I really like the look I installed them about a month ago and the car has nicely settled , however I noticed that one of the corner seemed to be lower then the rest so I took measurements and came up with these From center hub to edge of fender Front (both) 14 inches Rear driver 13.75 inches Rear passenger a breath under 13 inches So yes I have a side that is lower any idea why? Could iit be the allignement as I have not had the car aligned yet Thanks

An alignment isn't going to affect ride height, and that's way off. I know this seems obvious but were both spring pads reused? That, or a defective spring are the only reasons I can think of for the height to be so mismatched.
Actually one other slight possibility - if the higher side didn't seat properly on the spring perch/pad it could cause that side to be higher. Of course that would have been pretty obvious during the install though. |

Try switching your springs from left to right and see if the height issue follows the spring. I've played with a lot of Eibach springs and have never seen an issue with their specs being off.

Interestingly, I just had a set of Koni FSDs and Eibach Pros installed last week on my E92 335i, and I have the same problem after settling and alignment in the rear. I have a 0.75" difference in corner height as well on the passenger side, with absolutely no spring seat problems. I'm going to swap sides to test for transfer of the problem.

Maybe it is designed to be a little higher on the driver's side, but he measured a .75" difference. That's huge. If you lowered your car .75" from stock that's a very noticeable drop, so I imagine this discrepancy is very noticeable.
OP - have you contacted Eibach yet or taken the car to a suspension shop? Curious to know the cause as I have my Eibach/Koni kit waiting to be put on next week... |

I have run into this problem on BMW's before. And also made the same mistakes when installing springs (binding, left out pads, etc.). But even when done 100% correctly, they are set up to be higher on the rear driver's side. Unfortunately when you swap higher spring rate springs in, what was a lot smaller gap discrepancy on that side stock (& unloaded) is now a larger one (same mass with higher rate = less deflection). In some cases the way they set up the higher ride height is with slightly thicker spring pads on that side, so if that were the case you could swap out the pads. At least I heard people were doing that, I could not tell looking at them.
I am staring out my window now at my old e36 M3 w/ H&R sports which drove me crazy for years with this higher ride height nonsense on one side. I eventually figured if I gained 30 lbs it would all work out while I'm driving it. And it does! Last edited by ajsalida; 10-19-2010 at 03:08 PM.. |
